While these studies reveal changes in fractional anisotropy (FA) across different brain regions, they tend to focus on white matter tracts and cognitive regions, often overlooking gray matter and motor areas. Additionally, traditional DTI metrics can be affected by partial volume effects.

The Role of Pentacyclic Triterpenoids in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: The Mechanisms of Action and Therapeutic Potential.

Lung cancer remains a major global health problem because of its high cancer-related mortality rate despite advances in therapeutic approaches. Evaluation of health-related quality of life and performance in intestinal transplant and rehabilitation patients: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in intestinal failure (IF) patients after different modes of intestinal rehabilitation.

Methods: HRQoL was assessed using the generic 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36, ver. 2) and visual analogue scale (VAS) in 6 different areas: diet, sleep, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, diarrhea, musculoskeletal pain, and other symptoms.

Korean Gastric Cancer Association-Led Nationwide Survey on Surgically Treated Gastric Cancers in 2023.

Purpose: Since 1995, the Korean Gastric Cancer Association (KGCA) has been periodically conducting nationwide surveys on patients with surgically treated gastric cancer. This study details the results of the survey conducted in 2023.

Materials And Methods: The survey was conducted from March to December 2024 using a standardized case report form.

Revisiting Age-Related Normative Hearing Levels in Korea.

Background: Hearing level reference values based on the results of recent audiometry have not been established for the general population of South Korea. This study aimed to evaluate the mean hearing levels of each age group and to measure the annual progression of hearing loss.

Methods: We used the database of the eighth and ninth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2020 to 2022, and included participants with normal tympanic membranes and without occupational noise exposure.

Patient satisfaction and feasibility with a novel drug-injectable urethral catheter set for hyaluronic acid administration: a multicenter randomized trial.

Reducing the risk of urethral strictures after transurethral surgery for patients with bladder cancer requires effective strategies. We compared the clinical outcomes of a novel drug-injectable urethral catheter set (NIUS) with hyaluronic acid (HA) with those of the conventional intraurethral HA injection method. This six-center, prospective, randomized, single-blind trial included 192 male patients aged ≥ 20 years scheduled to undergo transurethral surgery.

Efficacy and Safety of Secondary Surgical Treatment for Refractory Recurrent Corneal Erosion.

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of secondary surgical intervention of combined phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) with alcohol delamination and peripheral anterior stromal puncture (ASP) for refractory recurrent corneal erosion (RCE).

Methods: This retrospective comparative study defined refractory RCE as cases persisting for more than 6 months after primary surgical intervention. A total of 115 eyes from 115 patients with refractory RCE, treated either with (n = 92) or without (n = 23) the secondary surgical treatment combining PTK and ASP between January 2021 and January 2023, were included.

Efficacy and safety of rebamipide/nizatidine in patients with erosive gastritis: A randomized, multicenter, phase 4 study.

Background: For the treatment of gastritis, rebamipide, a mucoprotective agent, and nizatidine, a gastric acid suppressant, are commonly employed individually.

Aim: To compare the efficacy of Mucotra SR (rebamipide 150 mg) and Axid (nizatidine 150 mg) combination therapy with the sole administration of Axid in managing erosive gastritis.

Methods: A total of 260 patients diagnosed with endoscopically confirmed erosive gastritis were enrolled in this open-label, multicenter, randomized, phase 4 clinical trial, allocating them into two groups: Rebamipide/nizatidine combination twice daily nizatidine twice daily for 2 weeks.

Several meta-analyses have found no association between Graves' disease (GD) and an increased risk of incident diabetes; however, the intricate relationship between thyroid dysfunction and diabetes remains underexplored. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the risk of incident type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in a population newly diagnosed with GD, focusing on different treatment methods and treatment duration. This was a retrospective population-based study utilizing data from the Korean National Health Insurance database.

Initial experience of a novel ureteral silicon-covered metallic mesh stent in malignant ureteric obstruction: a single-center retrospective study.

Background: This study aimed to investigate initial experiences and outcomes of a retrograde inserted new silicone-covered metallic ureteric stent (Urexel™) for malignant ureteric obstruction.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records for 12 consecutive patients who underwent Urexel™ stent placement for malignant ureteric obstruction from March 2020 to March 2021. The Urexel™ stent is a segmental metallic ureteric stent composed of a nitinol mesh covered with a silicone membrane.

Fabrication and Characterization of Biocompatible Multilayered Elastomer Hybrid with Enhanced Water Permeation Resistance for Packaging of Implantable Biomedical Devices.

This study presents the synthesis and characterization of hexadecyl-modified SiO (HD-SiO) nanoparticles and their application in the fabrication of a multilayered elastomer hybrid sheet to enhance water resistance in implantable biomedical devices. The surface modification of SiO nanoparticles was confirmed via FT-IR and TGA analyses, showing the successful grafting of hydrophobic hexadecyl groups. FE-SEM and DLS analyses revealed spherical HD-SiO nanoparticles with an average size of 360 nm.

Intravitreal long-term sustained ranibizumab delivery using injectable microgel-embedded hydrogel.

Retinal vascular disease is the leading cause of visual impairment. Although intravitreal drug injections are the most suitable approach for addressing retinal disorders, existing clinical treatments necessitate repeated administration, imposing a substantial burden on patients with various intraocular complications. This study introduces an injectable and biodegradable hyaluronan microgel (Hm)-embedded gelatin-poly(ethylene glycol)-tyramine hydrogel (HmGh) designed for sustained intravitreal ranibizumab (RBZ) delivery to reduce patient burden and minimize the side effects associated with frequent injections.

Re-evaluation of the role of endoscopic submucosal dissection in the treatment of early gastric cancer based on additional gastrectomy results.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) plays a pivotal role in treating early gastric cancer (EGC). Some patients require additional gastrectomy because of non-curative ESD. This study aimed to analyze the clinical factors associated with non-curative ESD and to re-evaluate the role of ESD according to its indication criteria.

Association of volatile organic compound exposure and metabolic syndrome.

The cumulative toxicity of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) cause many medical diseases. We analyzed the evidence of association between VOCs and risk of metabolic syndrome in the Korean population using 1771 participants from the 2023 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The creatinine-corrected urinary concentrations of BMA, 2-MHA, PGA, SPMA, 3-HPMA, BPMA and DHBMA were higher in the metabolic syndrome group than in the non-metabolic syndrome group.

Association Between Perceived Noise Pollution and Sleep Quality: Findings from the 2018 Community Health Survey.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the potential relationship between sleep quality and perceived noise.

Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 185,246 adults (81,854 men and 103,392 women) participating in the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey (KCHS) was conducted. Subjective sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while perceived noise pollutants were categorized into two groups: perceived noise pollution (n = 43,638) and perceived non-noise pollution (n = 141,608).

Pharmacokinetics-Based Safety Evaluation in Half-Dose Verteporfin Photodynamic Therapy.

Introduction: This study was conducted to assess the systemic pharmacokinetic profiles of half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT) using concentration data from a previous clinical trial and to subsequently suggest safety precaution guidelines.

Methods: Coefficients for the bi-exponential model were obtained from published data on post-infusion plasma verteporfin concentrations within a period of 0.17-4 h.

Impact of variant histology in the prognosis of non‑muscle invasive bladder cancer with low‑tumor burden: A propensity score‑matched analysis with conventional urothelial carcinoma.

Bladder cancer (BCa) with variant histology (VH) is associated with an increased risk of recurrence and progression, as well as worse survival. However, the available literature does not provide the prognostic value of VH based on its tumor burden in non-muscle invasive BCa (NMIBC). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the prognosis of VH in NMIBC with low-tumor volume compared with conventional urothelial carcinoma (UC) with a similar tumor burden.
