The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between plasma Plg levels and coexisting CVD risk factors, comorbidities, PA, functional status and cognitive function in a random sample of 298 (179 women and 119 men) community-dwelling elderly aged 65-79 years. The average plasma Plg level was 91.4+/-19.

The particular interest of the investigators has been focused on methods simultaneously evaluating clotting and fibrinolysis processes. The aim of the present study was to develop an optical method for overall evaluation of clot formation and lysis (CL-test) that could be used in drug screening.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between plasma FG levels and coexisting cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk factors, comorbidities, functional status and cognitive function in a random sample of 270 (163 women and 107 men) community-dwelling elderly aged 65-79 years. The assessment included demographic and social variables, health status, nutritional state, physical and cognitive function. Physical activity was assessed by the Stanford Usual Activity Questionnaire.

A new nitrate derivative of piperazine: its influence on platelet activity.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet activation. Its donors, organic nitrates, are still a main group of drugs administered in ischaemic heart disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a new NO-donor analogue, 1-(3-piperidinepropionyl)-4-(2-nitrooxy-3-piperidinepropyl) piperazine trihydrochloride (NO-P), on platelet activity.

[Antithrombin III activity in the elderly--association with cardiovascular disease risk factors].

The incidence of thromboembolic episodes as well as cardiovascular diseases increases with advancing age. Antythrombin III (AT III) is one of the three natural anticoagulants (AT III, protein C, protein S) circulatig in blood vessels and responsible for an adequate blood flow. The aim of the study was to evaluate AT III level in a random sample of community-dwelling older inhabitants of Lodz (Poland), and to assess the relationship of AT III activity with other cardiovascular risk factors and selected elements of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.
