Background: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a standard of care for hypercapnic chronic respiratory failure (CRF). Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) frequently contributes to hypoventilation in CRF patients. CPAP improves hypercapnia in selected COPD and obese patients, like NIV.
