Radioactive radon inhalation is a leading cause of lung cancer and underlies an ongoing public health crisis. Radon exposure prevention strategies typically begin by informing populations about health effects, and their initial efficacy is measured by how well and how fast information convinces individuals to test properties. This communication process is rarely individualized, and there is little understanding if messages impact diverse demographics equally.

This has worsened over time in North America, with newer residences containing greater radon. Using data from 18,971 Canadian households, we calculated annual particle radiation dose rates due to long term residential radon exposure, and examined this as a function of occupant demographics.

We examined how North American residential radon exposure varies by modern environmental design, occupant behaviour and season. 11,727 residential buildings were radon-tested using multiple approaches coupled to geologic, geographic, architectural, seasonal and behavioural data with quality controls.

Coating physical-chemical properties were compared to those obtained from a well-known methacrylate-based enteric coating (Eudragit). Swelling in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) was 20 times higher than for Eudragit films.

The present article gives examples for asbestos-related findings in HR-CT and discusses the specificity of parenchymal and pleural changes due to asbestos fibres.

The detection of benign asbestos-related diseases is one condition for the compensation of asbestos-related lung cancer in Germany. Due to the increasing use of computed tomography, asbestos-related diseases are more frequently detected in the early stages.

The extension of digital imaging is a challenging task in occupational medicine as well as in pneumology. Technical requirements are not known sufficiently and the necessary equipment is not well distributed.

Based on some kinetic particularities, consisting in a faster glycosylation of the amine terminal group of the beta-chain located on the allosteric site, a hypothesis of a recognition center for specific sugars has been advanced. Affinity chromatography materials based on epichlorohydrin crosslinked amylose, agarose and dextran (Sephadex), were used.

Using various radioactive tracers as well as a learning/memory test, we could correlate following parameters: regional blood flow, protein synthesis and memory retention. All were severely impaired by the hemispheric multi-infarction.

Mucormycosis is a very serious complication of debilitating diseases, and particularly of diabetes. Presently the treatment of choice is amphotericine B. A patient is described who, like most other renal transplant patients with mucormycosis, had cranial localization of this disease and diabetes.

The average dose required for maintenance was approximately 40 mg weekly. Analysis of BPRS evaluations carried out during the 16-week trial revealed a significant linear trend toward further improvement.
