Toxoplasmosis in a bar-shouldered dove (Geopelia humeralis) from the Zoo of Clères, France.

Toxoplasmosis causes mortality in several avian species, especially passerine birds. Toxoplasmosis was diagnosed in a bar-shouldered dove (Geopelia humeralis) found dead at the zoo of Clères (France). The bird had necrotizing pneumonia and nephritis with intralesional tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii.

Treatment of a retroperitoneal abscess by omentalization in an orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus).

A 38-yr-old orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus) presented with chronic lethargy and difficulty in locomotion that progressed to weakness, anorexia, and permanent dorsal and/or lateral recumbency. The orangutan was immobilized with ketamine. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a mass in the caudal portion of the abdomen.

Mitochondrial DNA variability in Giraffa camelopardalis: consequences for taxonomy, phylogeography and conservation of giraffes in West and central Africa.

The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) still survives in four countries of West and central Africa. The populations of Niger and Cameroon are generally assigned to the subspecies peralta, but those of Chad and the Central African Republic are taxonomically problematic, as they are referred to as either peralta, or antiquorum, or congoensis. In this study, a mitochondrial fragment of 1765 nucleotide sites, covering the complete cytochrome b gene, three transfer RNAs and a large part of the control region, was sequenced to assess the relationships between several populations of giraffe.
