Objective: To describe the diagnostic criteria of new and progressive multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and scoring systems that might be used to assess and monitor the severity and progression of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in children presented as part of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development MODS Workshop (March 26-27, 2015).

Multicentre validation of the bedside paediatric early warning system score: a severity of illness score to detect evolving critical illness in hospitalised children.

Introduction: The timely provision of critical care to hospitalised patients at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest is contingent upon identification and referral by frontline providers. Current approaches require improvement. In a single-centre study, we developed the Bedside Paediatric Early Warning System (Bedside PEWS) score to identify patients at risk.
