Article Synopsis
  • Sleep is crucial for neurodevelopment, yet the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure on sleep quality is not well-studied, despite anecdotal evidence of sleep issues in affected children.
  • The study evaluated sleep in children aged 6-10 years, comparing those with prenatal alcohol exposure to a control group using objective (actigraphy) and subjective (parent questionnaires and diaries) methods.
  • Results indicated no overall differences in average sleep metrics, but children with prenatal alcohol exposure had greater variability in sleep patterns and parents reported significantly more sleep disturbances, especially in night wakings and daytime sleepiness.

Adult survivors of pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors are at the highest risk for morbidity and late mortality among all childhood cancers due to a high burden of chronic conditions, and environmental and lifestyle factors. This study aims to epidemiologically characterize young adult survivors of pediatric CNS tumors using body mass index (BMI) to assess risk factors for obesity. Using a cross-sectional design, young adults (18-39 years) previously treated for pediatric CNS tumors and followed in a survivorship clinic during 2016-2021 were examined.
