First-Episode Psychosis and the Role of the Psychiatric Consultant.

Objective: Timely recognition and treatment of first-episode psychosis (FEP) is paramount. Studies suggest a significant relationship between longer duration of untreated psychosis and poorer functional outcomes. Limited data exist that characterize how treatment for FEP is initiated by consultation-liaison psychiatric services.
