Clinical relevance of miRNAs as biomarkers is growing due to their stability and detection in biofluids. In this, diagnosis at asymptomatic stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains a challenge since it can only be made at autopsy according to Braak NFT staging. Achieving the objective of detecting AD at early stages would allow possible therapies to be addressed before the onset of cognitive impairment.

Using different assemblers to develop a transcriptome improves the quality of assembled transcriptome. In this study, a concrete and accurate method for detecting stress-responsive transcripts by comparing stress-related gene ontology (GO) terms and public domains was designed.

PET affords the potential for sensitive infection detection deep within the body. Among PET-based approaches, antibiotic-based radiotracers, which often target key bacterial-specific enzymes, have considerable promise.

While many tools are available for observing and perturbing intracellular processes, relatively few exist to probe intercellular processes. Current techniques for studying interactions often rely on direct protein contact, and few can manipulate diverse, functional outputs with tunable protein expression.

Methods: The study included 27 patients with post-traumatic brachial plexus injury treated with axillary nerve neurotization by a triceps motor branch for functional recovery of shoulder abduction and external rotation. The patients were retrospectively evaluated and two groups were identified, one with 13 patients undergoing axillary nerve neurotization by an axillary approach and the second with 14 patients using the posterior arm approach.
A series of potent and selective D receptor (DR) analogues with diazaspiro alkane cores were synthesized. Radioligand binding of compounds 11, 14, 15a, and 15c revealed favorable DR affinity (K = 12-25.6 nM) and were highly selective for DR vs DR (ranging from 264- to 905-fold).

Methods: Patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) between April 13, 2013, and April 20, 2013, were included in the study. These patients were evaluated retrospectively and two groups were identified: one in which intraoperative radioscopy was used to assess the positioning of the tibial component during the surgery and the other in which this resource was not used.

Background: In childhood cancer, consolidation treatment with chemotherapy followed by autologous hematopoietic progenitor stem cell transplantation is currently an accepted treatment modality in patients with high-risk solid tumors or in patients who have relapsed after conventional treatment.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe the results of transplantation of a group of children who had high-risk solid tumors or relapsed after conventional chemotherapy regimens.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted from January 1998 to October 2004 of all children with pathologic diagnoses of high-risk solid tumors or children that had previously relapsed after conventional chemotherapy and that were subsequently submitted to autologous hematopoietic progenitor stem cell transplantation.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of different times of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on intestinal bacterial translocation (BT).
Methods: Thirty Wistar rats weighing 280 ± 27 g were divided into five groups. In the IR group (n = 6), laparotomy was performed and the superior mesenteric artery was occluded by an atraumatic microclamp for 30 minutes.
Objective: Infection and sepsis are major causes of morbidity and mortality after surgery of diabetic patients. Statins have been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory (pleiotropic) effects, independent of lipid lowering. This study aimed to observe whether the pretreatment with simvastatin in a cecal ligation and perforation model of sepsis is beneficial in diabetic rats.

A 42-year-old farmer developed persistent mid-facial segmental pain and Meige's syndrome several months after suffering facial trauma and a fracture of the nose. He was not afflicted by systemic ailments, had no family history of movement disorder and no history of exposure to neuroleptic drugs. He was capable of suppressing his facial pain by performing a ritual that included forcefully tilting his head backwards, lowering of his eyelids and applying strong pressure to his nasion.

The objective was to investigate the effect of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on biodistribution of sodium pertechnetate (Na(99m)Tc(-)) in organs and tissues of rats.
Methods: Twelve rats were randomly divided into two groups of 6 animals each.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish morphologically the best time of vascular occlusion to induce ischemic preconditioning (IPC) for rat small bowel undergoing ischemia and reperfusion injury.
Methods: After approval by the Ethics Committee, 36 EPM-1 young adult Wistar rats from 300-350 g were distributed into 6 groups: sham (S); ischemia and reperfusion (IR), with 50 minutes of cranial mesenteric artery occlusion and 30 minutes of reperfusion; IPC with 1 cycle of 2 minutes (IPC-2), 5 minutes (IPC-5), 10 minutes (IPC-10), or 15 minutes (IPC-15), followed by sustained IR. The animals anesthetized with ketamine (60 mg/kg) and xylazine (10 mg/kg) intramuscular (IM), were maintained on mattress heat, hydrated with saline (80 mL/kg), and injected with 100 IU heparin.
Sleep often terminates migraine headaches, and sleep disorders occur with greater prevalence in individuals with chronic or recurrent headaches. Rhythmic head, limb or body movements are common in children before falling asleep, but they very rarely persist into adolescence and adulthood, or appear de novo later in life as sleep-related rhythmic movement disorders. A 22-year-old female with migraine without aura and history of early childhood pre-dormital body rocking (jactatio) discovered that unilateral slow rhythmic movements of her right foot greatly facilitated falling sound asleep while reclining.

The overall aim of this study is to verify the correlation of the coronal suture and the structures of the central lobe in 32 cadaver hemisphere brains and the importance of this information in surgical planning. The measurement of the nasion to the coronal suture ranged from 11.

Pain with yawning may occur in several conditions (secondary yawning pain) or develop in the absence of precipitating lesions (primary yawning pain). Primary yawning pain is normally of cephalic location.

A search for common areas of demyelination and focal axonal atrophy (T1 black holes) of the central nervous system (CNS) in 11 patients with MS exhibiting eyelid closure BLC was conducted employing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Finding lesions in common CNS locations on these patients can help to elucidate the pathogenesis of this restricted movement disorder.
