The Research Training Opportunities for Outstanding Leaders (ReTOOL) program was implemented in 2012 to increase the representation of racial and ethnic minorities in the biomedical workforce. Specifically, the ReTOOL program aims to foster the capacity for scientific research among underserved populations as well as address the cultural appropriateness of research projects. This paper describes the impact of the ReTOOL program in enhancing the research training of underrepresented minority (URM) students.

To gather these results, the psychophysiology laboratory traveled to the concert hall to collect data on dancers. The self-report Flow State Scale (FSS) measured global flow, challenge-skill balance, sense of control, and autotelic experiences; it addresses important features of the creative experience of performing artists.

However, repeated intravitreal injections are associated with poor patient compliance and potential side effects. Microparticle-based injectable devices have shown great promise to address this issue by sustained delivery of protein therapeutics, but critical barriers remain, including limited loading capacity and steady long-term release without compromising the anti-angiogenic activity of drugs.

The approach provides a prescription for the driving required to generate an arbitrary predetermined evolution for the expectation value of a chosen observable, together with a constraint on the maximum size of this expectation. To demonstrate this, we determine the laser fields required to exactly control the current in a Fermi-Hubbard system under a range of model parameters, fully controlling the nonlinear high-harmonic generation and optically observed electron dynamics in the system.

Limited data exist on direct measurement of AVVR by 4DF CMR in pediatric congenital heart disease (CHD). We aimed to validate direct measurement of the AVVR jet as accurate and reliable compared to the volumetric method (clinical standard by 2D CMR) and as a superior method of internal validation than the annular inflow method.

The gate is enabled by converting travelling continuous-mode photons into stationary cavity modes using strong classical control fields that dynamically change the effective cavity-waveguide coupling rate. This architecture succeeds because it reduces the wave packet distortions that otherwise accompany the action of optical nonlinearities [J.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the characteristics of patients assessed and treated at a multidisciplinary pelvic floor program that includes representatives from multiple specialties. Our goal is to describe the process from triaging patients to the actual collaborative delivery of care. This study examines the factors contributing to the success of our multidisciplinary clinic as evidenced by its ongoing viability.

We aimed to estimate the risk of PTB in newborns with CHD, to study associations and risk factors (modifiable and non-modifiable) as well as investigate postnatal outcomes. This was a retrospective cohort study of 336 pregnancies diagnosed with CHD between 2011 and 2016.

Addressing these trends will require science-based policy responses to reduce impacts, especially at national to local scales. Effective scaling of science-policy efforts, driven by global and national assessments, is a major challenge for turning assessment into action and will require unprecedented commitment by scientists to engage with communities of policy and practice.

Objective: Multiple studies show cultivatable bacteria in urine of most women. The existence of these bacteria challenges interstitial cystitis (IC)/painful bladder syndrome (PBS) diagnosis, which presumes a sterile bladder. The aims of this study were (1) to compare the female bladder microbiomes in women with IC/PBS and unaffected controls and (2) to correlate baseline bladder microbiome composition with symptoms.

Objective: To calculate the total clinical hospital cost of the Adult Spinal Deformity (ASD) care trajectory, to explain cost variability by patient and surgery characteristics, and to identify areas of process improvement opportunities.
Summary Of Background Data: ASD is associated with a high financial and clinical burden on society.
Background & Aims: Intestinal epithelial homeostasis depends on a tightly regulated balance between intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) death and proliferation. While the disruption of several IEC death regulating factors result in intestinal inflammation, the loss of the anti-apoptotic BCL2 family members BCL2 and BCL2L1 has no effect on intestinal homeostasis in mice. We investigated the functions of the antiapoptotic protein MCL1, another member of the BCL2 family, in intestinal homeostasis in mice.

Protocols to develop screening tests are well established. However, the application of screening principles to inherited diseases presents unique challenges.

Until 2015 the overall experience with OPAT in Belgium remained limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a Belgian 'OPAT at home' program, which was implemented in University Hospitals Leuven starting from January 2017.

During parasite division, the mitochondrion elongates, enters the daughter cells just prior to cytokinesis, and undergoes fission. Extensive morphological changes also occur as the parasite transitions from the intracellular environment to the extracellular environment.

We aimed to examine the associations of chest CT scan-identified luminal plugging with lung function, health-related quality of life, and COPD phenotypes.
Methods: We randomly selected 100 smokers without COPD and 400 smokers with COPD from the COPDGene Study.
