Article Synopsis
  • A study conducted on Israeli neonatal herpes simplex virus (NHSV) infection collected data from 2015 to 2022, comparing clinical characteristics of NHSV patients with those suffering from neonatal enteroviral meningitis (NEM).
  • The results showed an NHSV incidence of 5.9 per 100,000 live births, with notable demographics suggesting that horizontal transmission was linked to practices like ritual circumcision.
  • NHSV patients presented unique symptoms such as a lower incidence of fever and irritability but showed a tendency for rashes and seizures, marking a distinct clinical profile compared to NEM, which can help guide treatment approaches for infected newborns.

Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) is a condition that is characterized by acute onset respiratory distress that uncommonly can cause diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH). Our case is based on a 41-year-old female with a past medical history of seizure disorder who presented for shortness of breath and hemoptysis after a seizure. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the lungs revealed patchy ground glass subpleural airspace opacities bilaterally with increased secondary pulmonary lobule interstitial thickening.

Nintedanib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is a cornerstone in the management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis through its anti-fibrotic effects; however, its impact on wound healing is less studied. We present a case of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) following the initiation of nintedanib. The patient's presentation prompted a drug holiday of nintedanib, resulting in a marked improvement in her symptoms.

Subgaleal fluid collection is a rare phenomenon of scalp swelling among young infants and, in many cases, adolescents. As fluid accumulates in the subgaleal space, it presents as a soft, ill-defined, fluctuant, mobile swelling not limited to suture lines. This condition is associated with vacuum-assisted devices and forceps during delivery in infancy.

Electrocatalytic nitric oxide reduction reaction (NORR) is a promising method for generating NH and eliminating harmful NO pollutants. However, developing a NORR catalyst for NH synthesis with low cost and high efficiency is still challenging. We here report a series of single-atom catalysts (SACs), designed by embedding nine different transition metals from Sc to Cu in S-vacant WS monolayer (TM@WS), and investigate the electrocatalytic performance for NORR process using the dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations.
