To improve the interpretation and utilisation of blood lipids, ketones and acylcarnitine concentrations as biomarkers in clinical assessments, more information is needed on their dynamic alterations in response to dietary intake and fasting. The aim of this intervention study was to characterise the changes in serum lipid, ketone and acylcarnitine concentrations 24 h after a standardised breakfast meal. Thirty-four healthy subjects (eighteen males and sixteen females) aged 20-30 years were served a breakfast meal (∼500 kcal, 36 E% fat, 46 E% carbohydrates, 16 E% protein, 2E% fibre), after which they consumed only water for 24 h.

Legumain is known to be regulated in atherosclerotic disease and may have both pro- and anti-atherogenic properties. The study aimed to explore legumain in individuals with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a population with increased cardiovascular risk. Plasma legumain was measured in 251 subjects with mostly genetically verified FH, of which 166 were adults (≥18 years) and 85 were children and young adults (<18 years) and compared to 96 normolipidemic healthy controls.

Introduction: Increased BMI has been identified as a risk factor for most pregnancy complications, but the underlying metabolic factors mediating the detrimental effects of BMI are largely unknown. We aimed to compare metabolic profiles in overweight/obese women (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 25 kg/m ) and normal weight/underweight women (BMI < 25 kg/m ) across gestation. Background: As part of the process of updating national dietary reference values (DRVs) and food-based dietary guidelines (FBDGs), the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2022 project (NNR2022) will select a limited number of topics for systematic reviews (SRs).

Objective: To develop and transparently describe the results of a procedure for prioritisation of topics that may be submitted for SRs in the NNR2022 project.

Design: In an open call, scientists, health professionals, national food and health authorities, food manufacturers, other stakeholders and the general population in the Nordic and Baltic countries were invited to suggest SR topics.

The objective of this study was to compare diets consumed by children with FH at the time of diagnosis in Norway and Spain and to study their relationship with the lipid profile.
