Article Synopsis
  • Mesiodens, the most common type of extra teeth, are often found accidentally during dental exams, leading to many late diagnosis issues that could be avoided if detected early.
  • The exact cause of mesiodens is still unknown, but there are several theories, including potential hereditary links, as cases have been reported where family members also have supernumerary teeth.
  • The article presents three cases of a mother and her two children with mesiodens, suggesting genetic factors might play a role, and emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis to prevent complications and develop better screening tools for at-risk individuals.
