CSF1R expression modulates tumor-associated macrophages, making CSF1R blockade an appealing immune-modulating therapeutic target. We evaluated the correlation between CSF1R tumor RNA expression and outcome (pan-cancer setting). RNA expression was ranked as a percentile (0-100) using a standardized internal reference population (735 tumors; 35 histologies).

Thyroid hormone (TH) metabolism and cellular TH action are influenced by ageing. To investigate the response to thyroxine (T4) overtreatment, a kinetic study was conducted in young and aged mice with chronic hyperthyroidism and hormone withdrawal. Five and 22 months old male mice were treated with T4 or PBS over 5 weeks, followed by observation for up to 12 days.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a destructive inflammatory disease and the genes expressed within the lung are crucial to its pathophysiology. We have determined the RNAseq transcriptome of bronchial brush cells from 312 stringently defined ex-smoker patients. Compared to healthy controls there were for males 40 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 73 DEGs for females with only 26 genes shared.

Objectives: Widespread global transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), continues. Many questions remain about asymptomatic or atypical infections and transmission dynamics. We used comprehensive contact tracing of the first 2 confirmed patients in Illinois with COVID-19 and serologic SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing to determine whether contacts had evidence of undetected COVID-19.

Article Synopsis
  • - COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was first identified in China in December 2019, and the initial case in Illinois, USA, was investigated by health agencies in January 2020.
  • - A woman in her 60s tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 after returning from China, leading to the identification of 372 contacts, with 347 monitored for symptoms; out of these, 43 were classified as persons under investigation, but all tested negative for the virus.
  • - The findings suggest that while there was direct person-to-person transmission in the initial case, extensive monitoring and testing of contacts, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, did not reveal any further spread of the virus. *

Clinical manifestation of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism vary with age, with an attenuated, oligosymptomatic presentation of thyroid dysfunction (TD) in older patients. We asked, whether in rodents TD phenotypes are influenced by age and whether this involves changes in systemic and/or organ thyroid hormone (TH) signaling. Chronic hyper- or hypothyroidism was induced in male mice at different life stages (5, 12, and 20 months).

The prompt D^{0} meson azimuthal anisotropy coefficients, v_{2} and v_{3}, are measured at midrapidity (|y|<1.0) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV per nucleon pair with data collected by the CMS experiment.

The relative yields of ϒ mesons produced in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV and reconstructed via the dimuon decay channel are measured using data collected by the CMS experiment. Double ratios are formed by comparing the yields of the excited states, ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S), to the ground state, ϒ(1S), in both Pb-Pb and pp collisions at the same center-of-mass energy.

Data from heavy ion collisions suggest that the evolution of a parton shower is modified by interactions with the color charges in the dense partonic medium created in these collisions, but it is not known where in the shower evolution the modifications occur. The momentum ratio of the two leading partons, resolved as subjets, provides information about the parton shower evolution. This substructure observable, known as the splitting function, reflects the process of a parton splitting into two other partons and has been measured for jets with transverse momentum between 140 and 500 GeV, in pp and PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.

The azimuthal anisotropy Fourier coefficients (v_{n}) in 8.16 TeV p+Pb data are extracted via long-range two-particle correlations as a function of the event multiplicity and compared to corresponding results in pp and PbPb collisions. Using a four-particle cumulant technique, v_{n} correlations are measured for the first time in pp and p+Pb collisions.

Background: Sex and age play a role in the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction (TD), but their interrelationship for manifestation of hyper- and hypothyroidism is still not well understood. Using a murine model, we asked whether sex impacts the phenotypes of hyper- and hypothyroidism at two life stages.

Methods: Hyper- and hypothyroidism were induced by i.

Article Synopsis
  • A new measurement of the top quark mass is reported, focusing on single top quark events produced through the electroweak channel using data from the CMS detector at the LHC with a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV.
  • The analysis involves reconstructing top quark candidates via their decay into a W boson (which decays to a muon and a neutrino) and a b quark, thus enhancing the sample purity and reducing interference from top quark pair production.
  • The final measurement aligns with the current world average, providing a unique contribution to future averages by reducing systematic uncertainties linked to single top quark processes.
