Prevalence of chronic respiratory diseases in Aboriginal children: A whole population study.

Background: The burden of bronchiectasis is disproportionately high in Aboriginal adults, with early mortality. Bronchiectasis precursors, that is, protracted bacterial bronchitis (PBB) and chronic suppurative lung disease (CSLD), often commence in early childhood. We previously reported a 10% prevalence of PBB in Aboriginal children aged 0 to 7 years, however there are no data on prevalence of chronic lung diseases in older children.

Conducting decolonizing research and practice with Australian First Nations to close the health gap.

The purpose of this paper is to highlight a perspective for decolonizing research with Australian First Nations and provide a framework for successful and sustained knowledge translation by drawing on the recent work conducted by a research group, in five remote communities in North-Western Australia. The perspective is discussed in light of national and international calls for meaningful and dedicated engagement with First Nations people in research, policy and practice, to help close the health gap between First Nations and other Australians.

Novel function of PERP-428 variants impacts lung cancer risk through the differential regulation of PTEN/MDM2/p53-mediated antioxidant activity.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Identifying genetic risk factors and understanding their mechanisms will help reduce lung cancer incidence. The p53 apoptosis effect is related to PMP-22 (PERP), a tetraspan membrane protein, and an apoptotic effector protein downstream of p53.

New Coumarin Derivatives and Other Constituents from the Stem Bark of Zanthoxylum avicennae: Effects on Neutrophil Pro-Inflammatory Responses.

Three new coumarin derivatives, 8-formylalloxanthoxyletin (1), avicennone (2), and (Z)-avicennone (3), have been isolated from the stem bark of Zanthoxylum avicennae (Z. avicennae), together with 15 known compounds (4-18). The structures of these new compounds were determined through spectroscopic and MS analyses.

Association between major injuries and seat locations in a motorcoach rollover accident.

Motorcoaches and buses have the highest accident rate among different kinds of vehicles in Taiwan. It is, therefore, important to modify motorcoach designs so that they increase passenger safety. We collected patient data from a motorcoach rollover accident to assess the major injuries of the passengers and the associated risk factors for each type of injury.
