Background: Accurate prediction of postoperative vault in implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation is crucial; however, current formulas often fail to account for individual anatomical variations, leading to suboptimal visual outcomes and necessitating improved predictive models. We aimed to verify the prediction accuracy of our new predictive model for vaulting based on anterior and posterior chamber structural parameters.
Methods: This retrospective observational study included 137 patients (240 eyes) who previously underwent ICL surgery.

We describe a technique to reattach the detached Descemet's membrane, following cataract surgery. From the main clear corneal cataract incision, aqueous humor is ejected completely by apposition of the cornea to the iris for approximately 3 s. This ensures the fluid in the space between the stroma and Descemet's membrane is ejected and the detached Descemet's membrane returns to its original position.

Design: A retrospective observational study.
Methods: Total corneal astigmatism (TCA) were obtained using IOLMaster 700 and Anterion.

This paper addresses the problem of lossy image compression, a fundamental problem in image processing and information theory that is involved in many real-world applications. We start by reviewing the framework of variational autoencoders (VAEs), a powerful class of generative probabilistic models that has a deep connection to lossy compression. Based on VAEs, we develop a new scheme for lossy image compression, which we name quantization-aware ResNet VAE (QARV).

Objectives: Patient navigation improves colorectal cancer screening among underserved populations, but limited resources preclude widespread adoption in minority-serving institutions. We evaluated whether a patient's self-selected social contact person can effectively facilitate outpatient screening colonoscopy.
Methods: From September 2014 to March 2017 in an urban tertiary center, 399 black participants scheduled for outpatient screening colonoscopy self-selected a social contact person to be a facilitator and provided the person's phone number.
Mood disorder is ranked seventh among the worldwide causes of non-fatal disease burden and is generally believed to be a heritable disease. However, there is still a substantial portion of the heritability yet to be discovered, despite the success of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for mood disorder. A proportion of the missing heritability may be accounted for by rare coding variants segregating in families enriched with mood disorder.

Methods: In 5 groups of eyes (normal, contact lens, dry eye, post-LASIK/PRK, and keratoconus), corneal ET and CT were evaluated in 25 areas in the following 4 regions: 1) 1 central zone within 0 to 2.0 mm diameter, 2) 8 paracentral zones from 2.
Aim: To investigate the long term (≥5y) efficacy, predictability, and safety of laser keratomileusis (LASIK) in eyes with thin corneas [central corneal thickness (CCT) <500 µm].
Methods: A total of 339 patients met the criteria of this study. Finally, 175 eyes of 89 patients who had thin corneas and underwent LASIK≥5y ago returned to our clinic and included in this study.
This study aims to identify and characterize neurobiological markers for major depressive disorder (MDD) from resting-state brain functional MRI. We examined the abnormality in the regional homogeneity (ReHo) and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) in first-episode, drug-naive major depressive disorder (fMDD), and remitted major depressive disorder (rMDD) and correlated these fluctuations with clinical markers of MDD. We conducted a retrospective study and reviewed the medical records of 43 patients with fMDD.

Purpose: In a search for more effective combination chemotherapy for the treatment of metastatic melanoma, we conducted a phase I trial of a novel combination of docetaxel, temozolomide, and cisplatin.
Methods: Patients with inoperable or recurrent metastatic melanoma with a Zubrod performance status of 2 or less and adequate organ function were eligible. The dose of docetaxel was escalated between cohorts of patients, and the doses of temozolomide and cisplatin were fixed.
Goals And Background: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection among patients with peptic ulcer disease has been reported to range from 61 to 94%. Recent studies show a reduction in the prevalence of H. pylori infection in patients with peptic ulcer disease.

The EGG recordings were chosen according to their intensity, signal-to-noise ratio, and percentage of unvoiced intervals, while acoustic signals were selected based on voicing detection and the reliability of jitter extraction. The agreement between jitter measures was expressed numerically as a normalized difference.

The use of teleconferencing as an alternative to taking part in expensive or impractical traditional meetings is becoming more and more popular. However, there are limitations to both audio and video conferencing, such as lack of presence and involvement. These can potentially be avoided by the use of virtual shared space conferencing.

Jitter, or the amount of cycle-to-cycle variation in the fundamental frequency, is a characteristic of the vocal folds' vibration that may affect electroglottographic (EGG) and acoustic signals in similar ways, because the translaryngeal conductance and the oral pressure are modulated by the same physiological mechanism. Despite the apparent simplicity in jitter computation and the relative facility in recording and analyzing EGG signals, only a few studies comparing EGG and acoustic jitter have been reported. This can be attributed to the remarkable sensitivity of measures of acoustic jitter to such features as the type of sound being analyzed, the equipment used for data acquisition, or the algorithms used to identify glottal cycle boundaries.

The prevalence of depression among 74 male and 211 female patients aged 75 years or over registered with a group general practice was assessed, using the geriatric depression scale. Test scores of 0- 10, suggesting no depressive illness, were observed in 63 (85%) men and 172 (82%) women. Mild depression (scores 11-20) was observed in 10 (14%) men and 36(17%) women and severe depression (scores 21-30) in one (1%) man and three (1%) women.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA lectin has been isolated from the roots of 5-day soybean (Glycine max (L) cultivar Chippewa) seedlings, and its properties have been compared to those of the soybean seed lectin. The sugar-binding activities of the two lectins, both in terms of specific hemagglutinating activity and sugar specificity, are indistinguishable. Molecular properties of the two lectins, measured as relative molecular weights, isoelectric and electrophoretic patterns, amino acid compositions, immunochemical cross-reactivity, and chromatographic behavior on Sepharose-concanavalin A adsorbents suggest that the seed and the root lectin are very similar but not identical.
