Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes the effectiveness of four COVID-19 vaccines in Bahrain regarding their ability to prevent infections, hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and deaths during the period when the Delta variant was prevalent.
  • Results showed that all vaccines were effective in reducing COVID-19 related outcomes for vaccinated individuals compared to unvaccinated ones, but the Sinopharm vaccine was associated with a higher risk for post-vaccination infections and hospitalizations compared to others.
  • The research indicates no biased selection for vaccine types and notes a decline in protection from the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine for individuals over 60 during early 2021, suggesting the need for further studies to confirm these findings.

Quantum computers are expected to break modern public key cryptography owing to Shor's algorithm. As a result, these cryptosystems need to be replaced by quantum-resistant algorithms, also known as post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms. The PQC research field has flourished over the past two decades, leading to the creation of a large variety of algorithms that are expected to be resistant to quantum attacks.

In an effort to increase science exposure for pre-college (K-12) students and as part of the science education reform agenda, many biomedical research institutions have established university-community partnerships. Typically, these science outreach programs consist of pre-structured, generic exposure for students, with little community engagement. However, the use of a medium that is accessible to both teachers and scientists, electronic web-based matchmaking (E-matching) provides an opportunity for tailored outreach utilizing a community-based participatory approach (CBPA), which involves all stakeholders in the planning and implementation of the science outreach based on the interests of teachers/students and scientists.
