Bibliometric and trend analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on lateral interbody fusion (LIF).

Purpose: Lateral interbody fusion (LIF) is an increasingly popular minimally-invasive spine procedure. This study identifies notable trends in LIF literature and provides a detailed review of the bibliometric aspects of the top 100 most-cited articles.

Methods: Articles were queried from the Web of Science database.

International consensus is needed on a core outcome set to advance the evidence of best practice in cancer prehabilitation services and research.

Prehabilitation aims to optimise patients' physical and psychological status before treatment. The types of outcomes measured to assess the impact of prehabilitation interventions vary across clinical research and service evaluation, limiting the ability to compare between studies and services and to pool data. An international workshop involving academic and clinical experts in cancer prehabilitation was convened in May 2022 at Sheffield Hallam University's Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, England.

Using web analytics data to identify platforms and content that best engage high-priority HIV populations in online and social media marketing advertisements.

Background: Online advertisements on social media platforms are an important tool for engaging relevant populations in public health research. However, little is known about what platforms and ad characteristics are most effective in engaging high-priority HIV populations, including racial/ethnic and sexual minority individuals.

Methods: Data from this study were drawn from advertising campaigns conducted on popular websites and social media platforms that recruited for several nationwide randomized controlled trials of various HIV prevention and testing strategies among sexual minority men (SMM) from December 2019 until March 2022.

Time to reality check the promises of machine learning-powered precision medicine.

Machine learning methods, combined with large electronic health databases, could enable a personalised approach to medicine through improved diagnosis and prediction of individual responses to therapies. If successful, this strategy would represent a revolution in clinical research and practice. However, although the vision of individually tailored medicine is alluring, there is a need to distinguish genuine potential from hype.

Development and Evaluation of a New Triplex Immunoassay That Detects Group A Antibodies for the Diagnosis of Rheumatic Fever.

Streptococcal serology is a cornerstone in the diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever (ARF), a postinfectious sequela associated with group A infection. Current tests that measure anti-streptolysin O (ASO) and anti-DNaseB (ADB) titers require parallel processing, with their predictive value limited by the low rate of decay in antibody response. Accordingly, our objective was to develop and assess the diagnostic potential of a triplex bead-based assay, which simultaneously quantifies ASO and ADB together with titers for a third antigen, SpnA.

SCAI position statement on the performance of percutaneous coronary intervention in ambulatory surgical centers.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began reimbursement for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) performed in ambulatory surgical centers (ASC) in January 2020. The ability to perform PCI in an ASC has been made possible due to the outcomes data from observational studies and randomized controlled trials supporting same day discharge (SDD) after PCI. In appropriately selected patients for outpatient PCI, clinical outcomes for SDD or routine overnight observation are comparable without any difference in short-term or long-term adverse events.

Dermal fibroblasts influence the expression profile of 14-3-3 proteins in human keratinocytes.

We have previously demonstrated that the release of some of the 14-3-3 isoforms from keratinocytes is able to influence the expression of key matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in dermal fibroblasts. Conversely, in this study we aimed to investigate whether dermal fibroblasts possess the ability to modulate the expression of 14-3-3 proteins in keratinocytes. In order to address this question, human keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts were harvested and co-cultured.

HIV-1 epidemic in the Caribbean is dominated by subtype B.

Background: The molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 in the Caribbean has been described using partial genome sequencing; subtype B is the most common subtype in multiple countries. To expand our knowledge of this, nearly full genome amplification, sequencing and analysis was conducted.

Methodology/principal Findings: Virion RNA from sera collected in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago were reverse transcribed, PCR amplified, sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed.

Identification of different isoforms of 14-3-3 protein family in human dermal and epidermal layers.

We have previously demonstrated a high level of stratifin, also known as 14-3-3 sigma in differentiated keratinocyte cell lysate and conditioned medium (CM). In this study, we asked the question of whether other 14-3-3 isoforms are expressed in human dermal fibroblasts, keratinocytes, intact dermal and epidermal layers of skin. In order to address this question, total proteins extracted from cultured cells or skin layers were subjected to western blot analysis using seven different primary antibodies specific to well-known mammalian isoforms, beta, gamma, epsilon, eta, sigma, tau, and zeta of 14-3-3 protein family.

Assessment of the Lequesne index of severity for osteoarthritis of the hip in an elderly population.

Objective: To assess the measurement properties of the Lequesne index of severity for osteoarthritis of the hip (LISOH) together with its overall usefulness with reference to the original stated aims.

Method: Postal questionnaire was sent to a random sample of 5500 Oxfordshire residents, aged 65 and above. Respondents with hip symptoms at baseline (but without verification of a diagnosis) were sent an identical follow-up questionnaire 12 months later.

Two outbreaks of occupationally acquired histoplasmosis: more than workers at risk.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the etiology and risk factors for acute histoplasmosis in two outbreaks in Illinois among laborers at a landfill in 2001 and at a bridge reconstruction site in 2003.

Design: We performed environmental investigations during both outbreaks and also performed an analytic cohort study among bridge workers.

Participants: Workers at the landfill during May 2001 and those at the bridge site during August 2003 participated in the study.

A distinctive clade B HIV type 1 is heterosexually transmitted in Trinidad and Tobago.

HIV-1 transmission worldwide is predominantly associated with heterosexual activity, and non-clade B viruses account for the most spread. The HIV-1 epidemic in Trinidad/Tobago and the Caribbean shares many features with such heterosexual epidemics, including a prominent role for coincident sexually transmitted diseases. This study evaluates the molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 in Trinidad/Tobago during a period when abrupt transition from homosexual to heterosexual transmission occurred in the absence of injecting drug use, concomitant with a rapid rise in HIV-1 prevalence in the heterosexual population.

Six weeks to twenty-one years old: a longitudinal study of children with Down's syndrome and their families. Third Jack Tizard memorial lecture.

A cohort of children with Down's syndrome, and their families, have been seen at intervals from six weeks old. Some follow-up data to 21 yrs are reported here. Until 21 yrs when one mother withdrew her son there have been no losses to the study apart from those caused by death.
