The purpose was to design and implement a Web-based telemedicine system for diabetic retinopathy screening using digital fundus cameras and to make the software publicly available through Open Source release. The process of retinal imaging and case reviewing was modeled to optimize workflow and implement use of computer system. The Web-based system was built on Java Servlet and Java Server Pages (JSP) technologies.
