Background: Surgical treatment is an accepted method to manage esophageal perforation, but in many cases it may result in failure. This paper compares the efficacy of surgical treatment and stenting in patients after previous surgical intervention for esophageal perforation.

Methods: A single-institution retrospective study was performed in a group of patients treated for esophageal perforation admitted to our centre from 2010 to 2015.

Introduction: Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare disease characterised by the abnormal accumulation of surfactant-like material in macrophages within the alveolar spaces and distal bronchioles. The course of the disease is variable and the prognosis is often good. However, progressive disease in some patients can cause respiratory dysfunction and can be life threatening.

Background & Aims: The aim of the study was to implement nutritional risk screening (NRS-2002) and to assess the association between nutritional risk and clinical outcome.

Methods: NRS-2002 was implemented in 26 hospital departments (surgery, internal medicine, oncology, intensive care, gastroenterology and geriatrics) in Austria, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Lebanon, Libya, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland. Being a prospective cohort study, randomly selected adult patients were included at admission and followed during their hospitalisation.

The case of alveolar proteinosis successfully treated with whole lung lavage is described. In 40 years old, heavy smoker man disease started with recurrent respiratory tract infections. Disseminated lesions in chest x-ray were found.
