Cerebral ischemia and subsequent reperfusion, leading to reduced blood supply to specific brain areas, remain significant contributors to neurological damage, disability, and mortality. Among the vulnerable regions, the subcortical areas, including the hippocampus, are particularly susceptible to ischemia-induced injuries, with the extent of damage influenced by the different stages of ischemia. Neural tissue undergoes various changes and damage due to intricate biochemical reactions involving free radicals, oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and glutamate toxicity.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore how vitamin D3 (VitD3) affects inflammation, hyperphosphorylated tau (p-tau), and cognitive impairment in a mouse model of vascular dementia (VaD).
  • - 32 male mice were divided into four groups: control, VaD, VitD3 (300 IU/Kg/day), and VitD3 (500 IU/Kg/day) for 4 weeks, with assessments conducted on inflammation and p-tau levels in the hippocampus.
  • - Results indicated that VitD3 significantly reduced inflammatory markers and improved spatial memory in treated mice, though it did not significantly lower p-tau levels, suggesting its neuroprotective benefits mainly stem from anti-inflammatory effects. *

Studies have shown that vitamin E as an antioxidant protects omega-3 fatty acids (FAs) from oxidation. Several studies have evaluated the effect of omega-3 FAs and vitamin E co-supplementation on obesity indices; however, the results are inconsistent. The present systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to address the role of omega-3 FAs plus vitamin E on obesity indices.

Objective: Studies have reported controversial findings regarding the flaxseed oil effect on antioxidant status biomarkers. The present meta-analysis aimed to determine the impact of flaxseed oil on the serum level of biomarkers of oxidative stress.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted up to November 2020 on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Central Library.
