Positive Deviance Theory: Leveraging Compliments Data to Guide Strategic Planning for Patient Experience Improvement in a Large Rural Health Care System.

Background: Patient-centered care (PCC) has been called for as a solution to improving care quality and patient outcomes. Patient experience, termed care experience, is a measurable aspect of PCC and aligns with coproduction. Identifying patterns of positivity and high performers is a Positive Deviance approach that can inform strategic improvement of the care experience.

Using Focus Groups to Evaluate a Self-Assessment Approach to Coproduction Value Creation in an International Community of Practice: Phase 2 of the CO-VALUE Study.

Introduction: Coproduction learning health system models clearly define the use of clinical and patient-reported data for system learning and quality improvement, but less is known about how to document formative learning about coproduction value creation over the course of a quality improvement initiative. The authors aimed to 1) assess the feasibility, utility, and acceptability of novel self-assessment tools for coproduction value creation and 2) identify domains of coproduction value creation.

Methods: The authors conducted 4 focus groups with quality improvement teams from 4 health systems in the United States and Sweden between June 2021 and September 2023.

Diversity in Combating Complex, Chronic, and Costly Conditions Using a Learning Health System Approach: A Scoping Review.

Introduction: The purpose of this scoping review was to investigate in the literature how a learning health system (LHS) can be implemented in cases of complex, costly, chronic (3C) conditions.

Methods: A scoping review of literature published in English since 2007 was conducted using Medline, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Scopus. Two authors screened the resulting articles and two authors extracted study details on the structure, process, and outcome of each LHS.

Biotechnology executive order opens door for regulatory reform and social acceptance of genetically engineered microbes in agriculture.

In the United States, regulatory review of genetically engineered microbes for agriculture falls under the Coordinated Framework for the Regulation of Biotechnology (CFRB). However, the lack of a centralized regulatory pathway and multiple oversight authorities can lead to uncertainty in regulatory review. Using three microbial-based technologies for agriculture as illustrative examples, this commentary identifies the weaknesses and challenges associated with the CFRB by assessing the current system and proposed changes to the system under a multi criteria decision analysis framework.

Enhancing Care Partnerships Using a Rheumatology Dashboard: Bringing Together What Matters Most to Both Patients and Clinicians.

Objective: Dashboards can support person-centered care by helping people partner with their clinicians to coproduce care based on preferences, shared decision-making, and evidence-based treatments. We engaged caregivers of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and clinicians in a pilot study to assess their experiences and the utility and impact of an electronic previsit questionnaire and point-of-care dashboard to support coproduction of rheumatology care.

Methods: We employed a mixed-methods design to assess users' perceptions of a customized electronic health record rheumatology module at four pediatric rheumatology practices and two adult rheumatology practices.

Community composition and recruitment are important elements of plant-microbe interactions and may provide insights for plant development and resilience. The results of 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing from four rhizocompartments for four wheat cultivars grown under controlled conditions and sampled after flag leaf emergence are provided. Data demonstrate differences in microbial communities according to rhizocompartment.

Understanding basic interactions at the plant-soil interphase is critical if we are to exploit natural microbial communities for improved crop resilience. We report here 16S amplicon sequencing data from 3 rhizocompartments of 4 wheat cultivars grown under controlled greenhouse conditions. We observed that rhizocompartments and cultivar affect the community composition.

Effective Pharmacovigilance System Development: EFPIA-IPVG Consensus Recommendations.

Pharmaceutical legislation provides a legal framework to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. This framework requires national regulatory authorities (NRAs) to establish and maintain a pharmacovigilance system (PV system) stating and enforcing the regulatory commitments that key stakeholders, including marketing authorisation holders (MAHs), are required to fulfil. In recent years, national legislative bodies and NRAs across the world have issued a significant amount of legislation and guidance enforcing the obligation to perform pharmacovigilance activities.

Computational prediction of gene regulatory networks in plant growth and development.

Plants integrate a wide range of cellular, developmental, and environmental signals to regulate complex patterns of gene expression. Recent advances in genomic technologies enable differential gene expression analysis at a systems level, allowing for improved inference of the network of regulatory interactions between genes. These gene regulatory networks, or GRNs, are used to visualize the causal regulatory relationships between regulators and their downstream target genes.

The emergence of Y-chromosome haplogroup J1e among Arabic-speaking populations.

Haplogroup J1 is a prevalent Y-chromosome lineage within the Near East. We report the frequency and YSTR diversity data for its major sub-clade (J1e). The overall expansion time estimated from 453 chromosomes is 10,000 years.

Deoxycytidine glyoxal: lesion induction and evidence of repair following vitamin C supplementation in vivo.

Oxidative DNA damage is postulated to be involved in carcinogenesis, and as a consequence, dietary antioxidants have received much interest. A recent report indicates that vitamin C facilitates the decomposition of hydroperoxides in vitro, generating reactive aldehydes. We present evidence for the in vivo generation of glyoxal, an established product of lipid peroxidation, glucose/ascorbate autoxidation, or free radical attack of deoxyribose, following supplementation of volunteers with 400 mg/d vitamin C.
