The number of beef × dairy animals entering feedlots has increased, but the response of beef × dairy cattle to growth-promoting implants has not been well characterized. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of breed type and implant administration on live performance, carcass characteristics, sera metabolites, and immunohistochemical (IHC) outcomes. Forty-eight steers (average body weight [BW] = 417±22 kg) were sorted by breed into groups of predominantly Angus (B), black-hided beef × primarily Holstein (B×D), or Holstein (D), and half of the steers within each breed type were administered a steroidal implant.

This study aims to explore this association in an ethno-racially diverse sample of cognitively unimpaired community-dwelling adults.
Methods: Data clinical examinations, neuropsychological tests, blood draws, and PF exams (Timed Up and Go [TUG] and Short Physical Performance Battery [SPPB]) were analyzed.
Background: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a heterogenous and etiologically complex disease often presenting with divergent appetitive phenotypes including Hyperphagic MDD (characterized by an increased appetite) and Hypophagic MDD (characterized by a decrease in appetite) which are closely related to comorbidities, including cardiometabolic disorders. Hyperphagia is associated with atypical depression, decreased stress-hormone signaling, a pro-inflammatory status, hypersomnia, and poorer clinical outcomes. Yet, our understanding of associated biological correlates of Hyperphagic and Hypophagic MDD remain fragmented.

It is often unknown whether genetic origin or common domestication effects will have a greater influence on consequences posed by escaped farmed fish. Previous work showed that domestication could have prevalent effects on the behaviour and growth of farmed salmon, independent of their genetic origin.

To discover genes and mechanisms involved in the lumpfish antiviral response, fish were intraperitoneally injected with either the viral mimic polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid [poly(I:C)] or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS; vehicle control), and head kidneys were sampled 24 hours post-injection (hpi) for transcriptomic analyses. RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) (adjusted p-value <0.

Objective: The aim of this study was to expand on prior work to provide a characterization of ptau181 among a diverse community sample. Consideration was taken regarding the impact of comorbidities on ptau181 levels including medical.

Constitutive activation is achieved through multiple mechanisms, including activating mutations in NFE2L2 (NRF2). To determine the functional consequences of Nrf2 activation on skin SCC development, we assessed the effects of mutant Nrf2 expression, one of the most common activating mutations in human SCCs, on tumor promotion and progression in the mouse skin multistage carcinogenesis model using a DMBA-initiation/TPA-promotion protocol where the Hras A->T mutation (Q61L) is the canonical driver mutation.

Unlike previous research focusing on fish oil replacement with vegetable alternatives, our study explored how the omega-6 to omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) ratio in low-fish oil aquafeeds influences Atlantic salmon's antiviral and antibacterial immune responses. Atlantic salmon were fed aquafeeds rich in soy oil (high in omega-6) or linseed oil (high in omega-3) for 12 weeks and then challenged with bacterial (formalin-killed Aeromonas salmonicida) or viral-like (polyriboinosinic polyribocytidylic acid) antigens.

Methods: The HABS-HD is a longitudinal study conducted at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The final sample analyzed (n = 1,312) were 50 years or older, with unimpaired cognition, and underwent an interview, neuropsychological examination, imaging, and blood draw.
We explore the nonlinear interactions of an optomechanical microresonator driven by two external optical signals. Optical whispering-gallery waves are coupled to acoustic surface waves of a fused silica medium in the equatorial plane of a generic microresonator. The system exhibits coexisting attractors whose behaviors include limit cycles, steady states, tori, quasi-chaos, and fully developed chaos with ghost orbits of a known attractor.

However, the effects on the health/disease status of fishes, the world's largest group of vertebrates, are unclear. Therefore, we assessed how long-term hypoxia affected the immune function of sablefish, an ecologically and economically important North Pacific species, including the response to a formalin-killed Aeromonas salmonicida bacterin.

Basal cell carcinoma is an exceedingly rare cause of spinal metastatic disease for which the treatment algorithm is poorly defined. We present a positive patient outcome after treatment of T8 metastatic basal with posterior decompression and fusion followed by later anterior reconstruction, in addition to targeted radiation therapy and pharmacologic therapy. In general, a personalized and comprehensive treatment approach should be used, incorporating surgical, oncologic, and pharmacologic methods as able.

Although use of beef genetics improves calf value, variability has been reported in beef × dairy calf phenotype for traits related to muscularity and carcass composition. The objective of this study was to characterize morphometric and compositional differences between beef, beef × dairy, and dairy-fed cattle.

In this study, four paralogues of the molecular chaperone serpinh1 were characterized in Atlantic salmon, as while this gene is considered to be a sensitive biomarker of heat stress in salmonids, mammalian studies have also identified it as being essential for collagen structural assembly and integrity. The four salmon paralogues were cloned and sequenced so that in silico analyses at the nucleotide and deduced amino acid levels could be performed.

Pyridine, pyrazole, oxazoline, imine, and ester directing groups are shown to dramatically enhance the reactivity of aryl bromides and chlorides with (IPr)Cu-fluoroalkyl complexes (IPr = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene; fluoroalkyl = difluoromethyl and pentafluoroethyl) to afford aryl-fluoroalkyl coupling products. This approach is leveraged to achieve the Cu-catalyzed directed fluoroalkylation of a series of aryl bromide substrates.

Although it is known that the whitefish, an ancient salmonid, expresses three distinct gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) forms in the brain, it has been thought that the later-evolving salmonids (salmon and trout) had only two types of GnRH: GnRH2 and GnRH3. We now provide evidence for the expression of GnRH1 in the gonads of Atlantic salmon by rapid amplification of cDNA ends, real-time quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry. We examined six different salmonid genomes and found that each assembly has one gene that likely encodes a viable GnRH1 prepropeptide.

The objective of this sire-controlled study was to test the feedlot performance of straightbred beef calves raised on a calf ranch and to compare finishing growth performance, carcass characteristics, and mechanistic responses relative to beef × dairy crossbreds and straightbred beef cattle raised in a traditional beef cow/calf system. Tested treatment groups included straightbred beef steers and heifers reared on range (A × B; n = 14), straightbred beef steers and heifers born following embryo transfer to Holstein dams (H ET; n = 15) and Jersey dams (J ET; n = 16) The finishing trial began when cattle weighed 301 ± 32.

In rarer circumstances, PG can lead to a systemic inflammatory response syndrome with extensive pulmonary infiltrates but ultimately cause and etiology of the disease are still uncertain.
