Lung transplantation (LT) constitutes the last therapeutic option for selected patients with end-stage respiratory disease. Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a form of severe lung injury, occurring in the first 72 h following LT and constitutes the most common cause of early death after LT. The presence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) has been reported to favor PGD development, with a negative impact on patients' outcomes while complicating medical management.

This comprehensive review explores the intricate aspects of left ventricular thrombus (LVT), a potential complication in both ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. It provides a thorough understanding of left ventricular thrombus, revealing its uncommon incidence in the general population (7 cases per 10,000 patients), predominantly linked to ischemic heart diseases (ICMs) at an 80% prevalence rate. Diagnostic tools, notably transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), demonstrate varying sensitivity but remain indispensable in specific clinical contexts related to LVT as non-invasive diagnostic modalities.

At the beginning of 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged as a new pandemic, leading to a worldwide health crisis and overwhelming healthcare systems due to high numbers of hospital admissions, insufficient resources, and a lack of standardized therapeutic protocols. Multiple genetic variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been detected since its first public declaration in 2020, some of them being considered variants of concern (VOCs) corresponding to several pandemic waves. Nevertheless, a growing number of COVID-19 patients are continuously discharged from hospitals, remaining symptomatic even months after their first episode of COVID-19 infection.

Links between aging and epigenetics have been revealed by bio-mathematicians. Methylation of cytosine, which is a characteristic of the epigenome, varies with age on some ADN loci, increasing or decreasing. From an analysis of the methylome, algorithms giving an "epigenetic age" were obtained, strongly correlated with the age.

Epigenetic regulation of histone H3K27 methylation has recently emerged as a key step during alternative immunoregulatory M2-like macrophage polarization; known to impact cardiac repair after Myocardial Infarction (MI). We hypothesized that EZH2, responsible for H3K27 methylation, could act as an epigenetic checkpoint regulator during this process. We demonstrate for the first time an ectopic EZH2, and putative, cytoplasmic inactive localization of the epigenetic enzyme, during monocyte differentiation into M2 macrophages in vitro as well as in immunomodulatory cardiac macrophages in vivo in the post-MI acute inflammatory phase.

Background: Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) is an established option for improving motion in patients presenting with early stiffness following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Intra-articular corticosteroid injections (IACI) are sometimes administered adjunctively, yet literature examining their efficacy and safety remains limited.

Study Design: Retrospective, Level IV.

Introduction: Although the physiological role of the C-terminal hydrolase domain of the soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH-H) is well investigated, the function of its N-terminal phosphatase activity (sEH-P) remains unknown.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess in vivo the physiological role of sEH-P.

Methods: CRISPR/Cas9 was used to generate a novel knock-in (KI) rat line lacking the sEH-P activity.

Background: Dandruff is a pervasive chronic condition which negatively impacts quality of life. Effective treatment requires efficient delivery of scalp benefit agents that control commensal scalp Malassezia levels. Delivery of benefit agents from shampoos requires balancing many technical parameters to achieve the desired outcome without sacrificing secondary parameters, such as cosmetic attributes.

Unlabelled: Fourth-year away rotations are well recognized as an important modifiable variable that has been shown to increase a student's opportunity to match into orthopaedic surgery. The purpose of this article was to determine whether allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) medical students have equal opportunities for away rotations in terms of (1) eligibility and (2) fees associated with rotations after the single accreditation merger.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed during the 2021 application cycle (April to November) by reviewing all nonmilitary, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited orthopaedic surgery programs (n = 194).

Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis are generally of sporadic origin, but the risk of being affected increases dramatically with age. Progress in understanding brain aging contributes to define precisely the relationships between aging associated physiological and pathological processes. Aging is induced by various stresses, which turn somatic cells to a senescent state.

Aims: Lymphatics are essential for cardiac health, and insufficient lymphatic expansion (lymphangiogenesis) contributes to development of heart failure (HF) after myocardial infarction. However, the regulation and impact of lymphangiogenesis in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy following pressure-overload remains to be determined. Here, we investigated cardiac lymphangiogenesis following transversal aortic constriction (TAC) in C57Bl/6 and Balb/c mice, and in end-stage HF patients.

Aims: In post-menopausal women, incidence of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is higher than in men. Hormonal replacement therapies did not demonstrate benefits. We tested whether the non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist finerenone limits the progression of heart failure in ovariectomized (OVX) mice with metabolic disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether reducing heart rate (HRR) can counteract cardiovascular dysfunction that occurs during acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) in a rat model.
  • Researchers induced ADHF through salt-loading and evaluated cardiac output, myocardial perfusion, and coronary relaxation at multiple time points after treatment with an I current inhibitor (S38844).
  • Results showed that HRR significantly improved cardiac function metrics compared to untreated ADHF, suggesting that HRR may help mitigate the negative effects of ADHF.

Objective: Lymphatics play an essential pathophysiological role in promoting fluid and immune cell tissue clearance. Conversely, immune cells may influence lymphatic function and remodeling. Recently, cardiac lymphangiogenesis has been proposed as a therapeutic target to prevent heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI).

Simulation has become increasingly important in surgical teaching in recent years and the French National Authority for Health (HAS) recently underlined the goal and ethical priority: "never the first time on the patient". Simulation programs have been tested and validated for laparotomy and for laparoscopy, but there is not yet a validated program specific for robotic surgery. Due to substantial advances in this new technology, we have developed a program in Nancy dedicated to outside-the-operating room (OR) teaching of robotic surgery using the Da Vinci robot.
