Exploring user engagement with real-time verbal feedback from an exoskeleton-based virtual exercise coach.

Objective: Engaging users during physical exercise is crucial for fostering long-term commitment, however, sustaining that engagement remains a significant challenge. This study explores the design of a voice-enabled exoskeleton-based virtual exercise coach (VEC) that provides real-time verbal feedback to enhance user engagement. The objectives of this study are twofold: (i) to compare user engagement with real-time verbal feedback from both VEC and human exercise coach (HEC) during physical exercise, and (ii) to understand users' perceptions and gather their recommendations for improving future VEC technologies.

Diagnostic accuracy of post-mortem computed tomography for fractures of the hyoid-larynx complex.

Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) is routinely used at many forensic institutions to guide the following autopsy and is especially useful for diagnosing fractures. This systematic review aims to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of a PMCT scan in fracture diagnosis of the hyoid-larynx complex (HLC) compared to traditional autopsy in cases involving traumatic neck injuries. We searched PubMed, SCOPUS and Web of Science and included papers with cases n ≥ 3 published between January 2000 and April 2023 reporting on PMCT and autopsy findings of fractures of the HLC.

Traumatic experiences can have long-lasting negative effects on individuals, organizations, and societies. If trauma is not addressed, it can create unsafe cultures with constant arousal, untrusting relationships, and the use of coercive measures. Trauma-informed care (TIC) can play a central role in mitigating these negative consequences, but it is unknown how and in which way(s) TIC should be implemented.

Introduction: Using videoconferencing for consulting with patients in the mental health services has been shown in interventions to be similarly effective as when meeting in person. In practice, it often makes more sense to use video consultations with patients in a more flexible way than interventions permit. This naturalistic multicenter study explored the relationship between participating in the Early Recognition Method (ERM) intervention and relapse, defined as spending at least one night at a psychiatric ward. The intervention was tailored to adult patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder in an outpatient mental health care setting. Before the intervention, the staff received training in application of the strategy.

Mental fatigue measurement using eye metrics: A systematic literature review.

Mental fatigue measurement techniques utilize one or a combination of the cognitive, affective, and behavioral responses of the body. Eye-tracking and electrooculography, which are used to compute eye-based features, have gained momentum with increases in accuracy and robustness of the lightweight equipment emerging in the markets and can be used for objective and continuous assessment of mental fatigue. The main goal of this systematic review was to summarize the various eye-based features that have been used to measure mental fatigue and explore the relation of eye-based features to mental fatigue.

The number of people working from home (WFH) increased radically during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate people's experiences of WFH during the pandemic and to identify the main factors of advantages and disadvantages of WFH. Data from 29 European countries on the experiences of knowledge workers ( = 5748) WFH during the early stages of lockdown (11 March to 8 May 2020) were collected.

A qualitative study of patients' and providers' experiences with the use of videoconferences by older adults with depression.

The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of patients and providers regarding the use of videoconferences in older patients with depression. The qualitative study consisted of semi-structured interviews with patients and providers and focus group interviews with providers. Themes were identified through using thematic analysis.

A spatial regime shift from predator to prey dominance in a large coastal ecosystem.

Regime shifts in ecosystem structure and processes are typically studied from a temporal perspective. Yet, theory predicts that in large ecosystems with environmental gradients, shifts should start locally and gradually spread through space. Here we empirically document a spatially propagating shift in the trophic structure of a large aquatic ecosystem, from dominance of large predatory fish (perch, pike) to the small prey fish, the three-spined stickleback.
