[Value of comprehensive evaluation of bladder structure and function in children by multi-modal ultrasound].

To comprehensively evaluate the structure and function of the bladder wall in children using multi-modal ultrasound (MMU). A total of 110 children without urinary symptoms admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2022 to June 2023 were included prospectively. MMU was performed and the vesical volume (VV), bladder wall thickness (BWT), shear wave velocity (SWV) of the anterior wall, resistance index (RI) and vascularization index (VI) were measured in the filled and emptied bladder respectively, and the ultrasound bladder compliance (UBC) was also calculated.

ROCK Inhibitor Enhances Resilience Against Metabolic Stress Through Increasing Bioenergetic Capacity in Corneal Endothelial Cells.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y27632 on bioenergetic capacity and resilience of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) under metabolic stress.

Methods: Bovine CECs (BCECs) were treated with Y27632 and subjected to bioenergetic profiling using the Seahorse XFp Analyzer. The effects on adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production through oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis were measured.

Clinical study on the effect of jejunoileal side-to-side anastomosis on metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Background: At present, the existing internal medicine drug treatment can alleviate the high glucose toxicity of patients to a certain extent, to explore the efficacy of laparoscopic jejunoileal side to side anastomosis in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, the report is as follows.

Aim: To investigate the effect of jejunoileal side-to-side anastomosis on metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 78 patients with T2DM who were treated jejunoileal lateral anastomosis.

RetinaRegNet: A zero-shot approach for retinal image registration.

Retinal image registration is essential for monitoring eye diseases and planning treatments, yet it remains challenging due to large deformations, minimal overlap, and varying image quality. To address these challenges, we propose RetinaRegNet, a multi-stage image registration model with zero-shot generalizability across multiple retinal imaging modalities. RetinaRegNet begins by extracting image features using a pretrained latent diffusion model.

Occluded Fenestration is Associated with Improved Long-Term Outcomes in Patients Undergoing the Fenestrated Fontan Operation.

Objective: The modified Fontan operation, a palliative approach for single ventricular circulation patients, often incorporates a fenestration to facilitate postoperative management. Postoperative fenestration closure is sometimes performed to mitigate potential risks such as low oxygen saturation. However, the benefits and potential risks of this procedure remain under investigation.

Macular patterns of neuronal and visual field loss in recovered optic neuritis identified by machine learning.

We used machine learning to investigate the residual visual field (VF) deficits and macula retinal ganglion cell (RGC) thickness loss patterns in recovered optic neuritis (ON). We applied archetypal analysis (AA) to 377 same-day pairings of 10-2 VF and optical coherence tomography (OCT) macula images from 93 ON eyes and 70 normal fellow eyes ≥ 90 days after acute ON. We correlated archetype (AT) weights (total weight = 100%) of VFs and total retinal thickness (TRT), inner retinal thickness (IRT), and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness.

Association between allostatic load and cardiac structural and functional abnormalities in young adults with serious mental disorders.

Objective: Allostatic load refers to the pathophysiological consequences of uncompensated adaptation to chronic stress. Few studies have investigated the effect of allostatic load on cardiac health in patients with serious mental disorders (SMDs), a population at high risk of cardiac mortality. Herein we evaluated associations between allostatic load and cardiac structure and function in young adults with SMDs.

Archetypal Analysis Reveals Consistent Visual Field Patterns for Stimulus Sizes III and V in Glaucoma and NAION.

Purpose: Disorders of the anterior optic nerve cause quantifiable patterns, or archetypes (AT), in visual fields (VFs) obtained using standardized automated perimetry using stimulus size III (size III). VFs with stimulus size V (size V) can reduce retest variability in eyes with moderate to severe loss. We postulated that VF testing using both stimuli would show similar ATs in eyes with glaucoma and nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

The pathogenic role of calcitonin gene-related peptide and predictors of new-onset migraine and long-term outcomes after transcatheter atrial septal defect closure.

Objective: To evaluate factors associated with new-onset migraine (NOM) after transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) closure and predictors of unremitting NOM. The pathogenic role of migraine biomarkers such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and neuropeptide Y (NPY) were also assessed.

Background: New-onset migraine has been observed after transcatheter ASD closure.

ILF2 protein is a promising serum biomarker for early detection of gastric cancer.

Background: Our previous small-sample study indicated that serum levels of interleukin enhancer binding factor 2 (ILF2) may have the potential for gastric cancer (GC) detection. The present study was conducted to further validate the diagnostic value of serum ILF2 protein for GC.

Methods: Serum specimens and clinical data were collected from patients with GC (n = 99) or benign gastric disease (BGD) (n = 49) and healthy controls (HC) (n = 51).

FOBism Unveiled: Quantifying Assimilative Racism within Asians in the United States.

FOB (fresh-off-the-boat) is a term used to refer to unassimilated immigrants or sojourners, which has created a divide within the Asian community. In this study, we coined the term FOBism, a form of internalized racism (or appropriated racial oppression) that intersects with assimilation, and we developed a measure of FOBism. We created a 14-item, 3-factor FOBism Scale and evaluated its psychometric properties among a sample of 296 Asians in the United States.

How grit mediates depressive symptoms with life and job satisfaction in full-time employed adults with congenital heart disease.

Background: Technological advancements have extended the lifespan of individuals with congenital heart disease (CHD), but physical and mental health issues can affect their life and job satisfaction.

Aims: This study examined whether grit can protect full-time employed adults with CHD from depression by exploring its mediating role between depressive symptoms and life or job satisfaction.

Methods: A cross-sectional design involved 181 adults with CHD assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire, Grit-10, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction at Work Scale.

Efficacy and safety of macitentan in Fontan-palliated patients: 52-week randomized, placebo-controlled RUBATO Phase 3 trial and open-label extension.

Objectives: The efficacy and safety of macitentan, an endothelin receptor antagonist, were assessed in a 52-week, prospective, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study assessing the efficacy and safety of macitentan in Fontan-palliated adult and adolescent patients (RUBATO-DB) and an open-label extension trial (RUBATO-OL).

Methods: Patients aged 12 years and older with New York Heart Association functional class II or III underwent total cavopulmonary connection more than 1 year before screening and showed no signs of Fontan failure/clinical deterioration. In RUBATO-DB, the primary efficacy end point was change in peak oxygen consumption from baseline to week 16; secondary end points were change from baseline over 52 weeks in peak oxygen consumption and change in mean count/minute of daily physical activity via accelerometer from baseline to week 16.

SbPL1CE8 from Segatella bryantii combines with SbGH28GH105 in a multi-enzyme cascade for pectic biomass utilization.

Pectinases are useful biocatalysts for pectic biomass processing and are extensively used in the food/feed, textile and papermaking industries. Two pectinase genes, a pectate lyase (SbPL1CE8) and a polygalacturonase (SbGH28GH105) were isolated from Segatella bryantii and functionally characterized. Recombinant rSbPL1CE8 was most active against polygalacturonic acid (PGA) and pectin with a 60 % degree of esterification, with k/K values of 721.

Comparison of One-Year Outcome of Intravitreal Aflibercept with or without Photodynamic Therapy for Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy.

: Our study compared the visual and anatomical outcomes of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) patients receiving intravitreal aflibercept (IVA) with or without photodynamic therapy (PDT) over 12 months. : This retrospective study was performed for 60 eyes from 60 patients with treatment-naïve PCV. Thirty eyes were treated using IVA monotherapy (IVA group), and thirty eyes were treated using a combination of IVA with PDT (IVA/PDT group).
