Background: Upper extremity (UE) vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA; hand transplantation) is a reconstructive treatment option for patients with UE loss. Approximately 37 UE VCAs have been performed in the United States to date; thus, little is known about long-term psychosocial outcomes and whether the benefits outweigh the risks. To make an informed treatment decision, patients must understand the procedure, risks, and potential benefits of UE VCA.

Twenty-four-Year Trends in Incidence and Mortality of Nephrotic Syndrome: A Population-Based Cohort Study.

Background: With the increasing prevalence of risk factors for nephrotic syndrome, updated epidemiologic data on the syndrome are needed. We examined its age- and sex-specific incidence, histopathology, and mortality over 24 years.

Methods: This nationwide cohort study included all adults with first-time-recorded nephrotic syndrome in Denmark during 1995-2018 using the Danish National Patient Registry.

Dental Implants in Patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta - Clinical and Radiographic Outcome in Six Patients.

Purpose: To investigate the survival rate of dental implants in patients diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI).

Materials And Methods: The study is a retrospective analysis of six individuals (2 males, 4 females) with OI (type I, III and IV) with a total of 25 dental implants. Clinical examination included plaque index, gingival index, periodontal pocket depth for each implant, presence of pus, and loosening of the implant(s).

Transportation Noise and Risk of Tinnitus: A Nationwide Cohort Study from Denmark.

Background: There is a growing body of evidence linking residential exposure to transportation noise with several nonauditory health outcomes. However, auditory outcomes, such as tinnitus, are virtually unexplored.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the association between residential transportation noise and risk of incident tinnitus.

Introduction: Low dietary intake of vitamin E is a global public health issue. RRR-α-tocopherol (RRR-αT) is the only naturally occurring vitamin E stereoisomer, but the equimolecular mixture of all eight stereoisomers, synthetic vitamin E (S-αT), is commonly consumed. The objective of this study was to evaluate bioavailability and antioxidant activity of RRR-αT versus S-αT, in both mother and fetus, after maternal supplementation during pregnancy.

In vivo observations of biofilm adhering to a dialkylcarbamoyl chloride-coated mesh dressing when applied to diabetes-related foot ulcers: A proof of concept study.

In this proof-of-concept study of twenty participants, we sought to determine if a DACC (Dialkylcarbamoyl chloride)-coated mesh dressing demonstrates an ability to adhere biofilm when placed on Diabetes Related Foot Ulcers (DRFUs) with chronic infection. The study also sought to determine if removal of the DACC-coated mesh dressings contributes to reducing the total number of bacteria in DRFUs, by exploring the total microbial loads, microbial community composition, and diversity. Standard of care was provided in addition to the application of DACC or DACC hydrogel every three days for a total of two weeks.

A recent study identified three distinct treatment-response trajectories in pediatric OCD where higher levels of contamination symptoms predicted a limited response to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This study extends these findings by examining which specific symptoms characterize limited CBT response from baseline to 3-year follow-up, with an emphasis on contamination symptoms. The study sample comprised 269 pediatric patients with OCD, all receiving stepped-care treatment with manualized CBT.

Exposure and Response Prevention: Evaluation of Tic Severity Over Time for Children and Adolescents with Tourette Syndrome and Chronic Tic Disorders.

Study Objectives: Insufficient sleep may attenuate weight loss, but the role of sleep in weight loss maintenance is unknown. Since weight regain after weight loss remains a major obstacle in obesity treatment, we investigated whether insufficient sleep predicts weight regain during weight loss maintenance.

Methods: In a randomized, controlled, two-by-two factorial study, 195 adults with obesity completed an 8-week low-calorie diet and were randomly assigned to 1-year weight loss maintenance with or without exercise and liraglutide 3.

Colon capsule endoscopy following incomplete colonoscopy in routine clinical settings.

Background: Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) was introduced in our department on two indications; following incomplete colonoscopy as an alternative to CT colonography, and in patients with a history of incomplete colonoscopy as an alternative to anesthesia-assisted (AA) colonoscopy. We aimed to compare the quality of CCE, defined by completion rate and polyp detection rate (PDR), with that of CT colonography and AA colonoscopy, respectively.

Methods: Patients referred for CCE from May 2020 until November 2021 were consecutively included in this prospective cohort study.

Background And Hypothesis: Gut microbiota alterations have been reported in severe mental illness (SMI) but fewer studies have probed for signs of gut barrier disruption and inflammation. We hypothesized that gut leakage of microbial products due to intestinal inflammation could contribute to systemic inflammasome activation in SMI.

Study Design: We measured plasma levels of the chemokine CCL25 and soluble mucosal vascular addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (sMAdCAM-1) as markers of T cell homing, adhesion and inflammation in the gut, lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) and intestinal fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP) as markers of bacterial translocation and gut barrier dysfunction, in a large SMI cohort (n = 567) including schizophrenia (SCZ, n = 389) and affective disorder (AFF, n = 178), relative to healthy controls (HC, n = 418).

Fiber digestibility and protein value of pulp silage for lactating dairy cows: Effects of wet fractionation by screw pressing of perennial ryegrass.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of substituting silage of chopped grass with pulp silage of grass fractionated once or twice in a biorefinery using a screw press on fiber kinetics, protein value, and production of CH in dairy cows. Six lactating multiparous Holstein cows in mid-lactation (176 ± 93 d in milk), cannulated in the rumen, duodenum, and ileum, were used in an incomplete 6 × 4 Latin square design with a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of treatments. Perennial ryegrass was harvested in third regrowth from the same field at early and late developmental stage (35 and 44 d of regrowth, respectively) and subjected to 1 of 3 types of processing within each developmental stage.

Purpose: Creatinine data are key in identifying acute and chronic kidney disease. In Denmark, routine clinical care creatinine data have been collected regionally in the Clinical Laboratory Information System Research Database (LABKA) since the 1990s and nationwide in the Register of Laboratory Results for Research (RLRR) since 2013. Here we describe the geographical coverage of the databases and characteristics of Danish individuals with creatinine tests.
