Purpose: Clinical trials are essential for development of better cancer care. Therefore, patient willingness to participate in these trials is important. The aim of this study was to assess motivation and thoughts of breast cancer patients concerning participation in a clinical trial.

A framework for assessing interactions for risk stratification models: the example of ovarian cancer.

Generally, risk stratification models for cancer use effect estimates from risk/protective factor analyses that have not assessed potential interactions between these exposures. We have developed a 4-criterion framework for assessing interactions that includes statistical, qualitative, biological, and practical approaches. We present the application of this framework in an ovarian cancer setting because this is an important step in developing more accurate risk stratification models.

In Scandinavia, the bird cherry-oat aphid Rhopalosiphum padi overwinter as eggs on the bird cherry tree Prunus padus. Branches of P. padus were collected at the late February / early March from 17 locations in Norway over a three-year period.

Fully automatic tracking of native glenohumeral kinematics from stereo-radiography.

The current work introduces a system for fully automatic tracking of native glenohumeral kinematics in stereo-radiography sequences. The proposed method first applies convolutional neural networks to obtain segmentation and semantic key point predictions in biplanar radiograph frames. Preliminary bone pose estimates are computed by solving a non-convex optimization problem with semidefinite relaxations to register digitized bone landmarks to semantic key points.

Drug-Induced Liver Injury Caused by Capecitabine: A Case Report and a Literature Review.

Chemotherapy is widely used in cancer treatment, and the drug Capecitabine is often used in treatment of breast cancer and usually well-tolerated. Toxicity from Capecitabine typically involves hand-foot syndrome, fatigue, nausea, reduced appetite, and diarrhea, while severe liver toxicity is rarely seen. We present a case of a 63-year-old female with metastatic breast cancer, without liver metastasis, who developed a severe drug-induced liver injury (DILI) with critically elevated liver enzyme levels as reaction to Capecitabine treatment with seemingly no evident explanation as to why.

Clinical parameters affecting survival outcomes in patients with low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma: an international multicentre analysis.

Background: Women with low-grade ovarian serous carcinoma (LGSC) benefit from surgical treatment; however, the role of chemotherapy is controversial. We examined an international database through the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium to identify factors that affect survival in LGSC.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort analysis of patients with LGSC who had had primary surgery and had overall survival data available.

Risk of epithelial ovarian tumors among women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A nationwide population-based cohort study.

An association between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and epithelial ovarian tumors is biologically plausible as conditions inherent to PCOS such as excessive androgenic hormones, reproductive factors and obesity are also risk factors for these hormone-sensitive tumors. However, previous studies have showed conflicting results and have various methodological limitations. This population-based cohort study investigates the association between PCOS and epithelial ovarian tumors and includes all women born in Denmark between January 1, 1940 and December 31, 1993 (n = 1 719 304).

Long-term cryopreservation of potassium bromate positive assay controls for measurement of oxidatively damaged DNA by the Fpg-modified comet assay: results from the hCOMET ring trial.

The formamidopyrimidine DNA glycosylase (Fpg)-modified comet assay is widely used for the measurement of oxidatively generated damage to DNA. However, there has not been a recommended long-term positive control for this version of the comet assay. We have investigated potassium bromate as a positive control for the Fpg-modified comet assay because it generates many Fpg-sensitive sites with a little concurrent generation of DNA strand breaks.

DNA strand break levels in cryopreserved mononuclear blood cell lines measured by the alkaline comet assay: results from the hCOMET ring trial.

The comet assay is widely used in biomonitoring studies for the analysis of DNA damage in leukocytes and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Rather than processing blood samples directly, it can be desirable to cryopreserve whole blood or isolated cells for later analysis by the comet assay. However, this creates concern about artificial accumulation of DNA damage during cryopreservation.

The new species Pandora cacopsyllae Eilenberg, Keller & Humber (Entomophthorales) is described. The fungus was found on infected pear psyllids Cacopsylla pyri (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) in a pear orchard in Zealand, Denmark. Morphological structures (conidia, rhizoids, cystidia) were described on the designated type host C.

Objectives: Older adults often have difficulty remembering the details of recently encountered objects. We previously found this with the Mnemonic Similarity Task (MST). Surprisingly, the older adults' MST Lure Discrimination Index (LDI) was significantly correlated with visual acuity but not with memory or executive function.

Background: Days alive without life support (DAWOLS) and similar outcomes that seek to summarise mortality and non-mortality experiences are increasingly used in critical care research. The use of these outcomes is challenged by different definitions and non-normal outcome distributions that complicate statistical analysis decisions.

Methods: We scrutinized the central methodological considerations when using DAWOLS and similar outcomes and provide a description and overview of the pros and cons of various statistical methods for analysis supplemented with a comparison of these methods using data from the COVID STEROID 2 randomised clinical trial.

Background: Firearm injury is now the leading cause of death for children in the United States. Functional morbidity among survivors also contributes to the public health burden of firearm injury but has not been quantified in children. This study aimed to assess functional impairment among survivors of pediatric firearm injury.

Efficacy of closed cell wet-suit at various depths and gas mixtures for thermoprotection during military training dives.

To evaluate a closed-cell wet-suit for thermal protective capability during extreme cold water exposure at various depths. Thirteen (n = 13) elite military divers who were tasked with cold-water training, participated in this study. To mimic various depths, the Ocean Simulation Facility (OSF) at the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) was pressurized to simulate dive depths of 30, 50, and 75fsw.
