We report on the successful use of a pasteurized C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) concentrate during dental surgery of a patient affected by hereditary angioedema. The patient recovered fully without complications or side effects. Within 30 min, the first 1,000 U of C1-INH concentrate raised C1-INH concentration from 19 to 55% and function from 40 to 90% of the normal mean.

Hyperplasia induced by N-2-fluorenylacetamide requires the continuous presence of the chemical for its maintenance. Feeding the chemical at levels of 8 to 86 ppm results in a dose-response related urinary bladder hyperplasia and, after 9 to 12 months, in bladder neoplasia at the higher dose levels. Neoplasia of the lungs, liver, parotid gland, lacrimal gland, harderian gland, and submaxillary gland was also observed.

The stability of internal fixation is enhanced by axial compression on the fracture ends. If internal fixation of the mandible is achieved by a compression plate at the lower border of the mandible (compression side), distraction of the fracture ends on the occlusal side occurs which has to be counteracted without damaging the roots of the teeth on the occlusal side (traction side) or without damaging the inferior alveolar nerve. From experiments on models it was seen that an acceptable solution to this problem is given by the use of the combined compression plate and tension band plate or the "Excentric Dynamic Compression Plate" (EDCP).
