Cancer cell proliferation requires precise control of E2F1 activity; excess activity promotes apoptosis. Here, we developed cell-permeable and bioavailable macrocycles that selectively kill small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cells with inherent high E2F1 activity by blocking RxL-mediated interactions of cyclin A and cyclin B with select substrates. Genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout and random mutagenesis screens found that cyclin A/B RxL macrocyclic inhibitors (cyclin A/Bi) induced apoptosis paradoxically by cyclin B- and Cdk2-dependent spindle assembly checkpoint activation (SAC).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the change in the rate of SDD after the pandemic and determine whether those changes became permanent.
Methods: The annual rate of SDD for 15,208 primary THA and TKA cases performed between January 1, 2015, and September 9, 2022, at a single institution was determined.

The proposed molecular structures contained an unusual piperazic acid residue, which piqued interest related to their structure/function and biosynthesis. Herein we disclose the first total synthesis of the proposed structure of cahuitamycin A in a 12-step longest linear sequence and 18% overall yield.

Methods: In 2022, we used 2021 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data to estimate proportions of adults up to date with US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations for breast (women aged 50-74 y), cervical (women aged 21-65 y), and CRC screening (adults aged 50-75 y) across sociodemographic and health care access variables.
The majority of bacteria live and evolve in surface biofilms. Both growth in biofilms and horizontal transfer of DNA are regulated by quorum-sensing pheromone signals. The common regulation of bacterial surface growth and DNA transfers illustrates how physiology contributes to bacterial evolution.

Methods: To estimate the proportion of adults up-to-date with breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening based on USPSTF recommendations, we analyzed Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data from 2016, 2018, and 2020 for the 50 US states and DC (US) and US territories of Guam and Puerto Rico and from 2016 for the US Virgin Islands. Age-standardized weighted proportions for up-to-date cancer screening were examined overall and by select characteristics for each jurisdiction.
