Purpose: Surgery remains the cornerstone of localized renal cell carcinoma (RCC) care. Pembrolizumab has recently been recommended as a standard of care for RCC patients who are at high risk of recurrence. Data regarding the efficacy of ICIs either alone or in combination with ICIs or VEGF TKIs for VTT shrinkage are scarce.

Purpose: Immune Checkpoints Inhibitors (ICI) have changed the therapeutic landscape of metastatic renal cell carcinoma first-line treatment with complete response (CR) at metastatic sites observed in 10 to 15% of cases. Delayed nephrectomy could be discussed for patients having a clinical benefit from immunotherapy-based treatment. However, it is unclear whether prior immunotherapy exposure adversely influences the complexity of surgery.

Introduction And Objectives: In case of acute urinary retention (AUR) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) first trial without catheter (TWOC) may fail in about 30% of cases. In this situation most of patients have to keep an indwelling catheter (IDC) or to perform clean intermittent self-catheterization (CISC) until surgery. Although CISC has shown several advantages over IDC in neurologic patients, it is barely proposed in case of acute or chronic urinary retention due to BPH and comparative data on the outcomes of BPH surgery are very sparse.

Investigations of the metabolic capabilities of anaerobic protists advances our understanding of the evolution of eukaryotic life on Earth and for uncovering analogous extraterrestrial complex microbial life. Certain species of foraminiferan protists live in environments analogous to early Earth conditions when eukaryotes evolved, including sulfidic, anoxic and hypoxic sediment porewaters. Foraminifera are known to form symbioses as well as to harbor organelles from other eukaryotes (chloroplasts), possibly bolstering the host's independence from oxygen.

Severe congenital neutropenia (CN) patients require life-long treatment with recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF), but some show no response. We sought to establish a therapy for CN that targets signaling pathways causing maturation arrest of granulocytic progenitors. We developed an isogenic induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) in vitro model of CN associated with ELANE mutations (ELANE-CN) and performed an in silico drug repurposing analysis of the transcriptomics of iPSC-generated hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the proteomic profiles of 79 bladder cancer samples, categorizing them into non-muscle-invasive (NMIBC), muscle-invasive (MIBC), and neoadjuvant-treated MIBC groups.
  • MIBC showed significant changes in the extracellular matrix and immune response-related proteins, as well as a decrease in proteins related to cell adhesion and lipid metabolism compared to NMIBC.
  • The research identified multiple proteomic subgroups within MIBC and NMIBC that correlate with tissue type and metabolic pathways, revealing complex tumor-stroma interactions and significant genomic alterations in the cancers.

Article Synopsis
  • The objective of the study was to update recommendations for managing kidney cancer based on recent literature from 2014 to 2024, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up methods.
  • Key findings highlighted that kidney cancer linked to trichloroethylene exposure should be considered an occupational disease, and that contrast-enhanced CT scans are essential for diagnosis, while PET scans are not necessary.
  • The updated guidelines recommend specific classifications for tumors, advocate for less invasive strategies like biopsies to avoid unnecessary surgeries, and suggest various surgical and treatment options tailored to tumor size, patient age, and overall health.

Background: Adoptive cell cancer therapies aim to re-engineer a patient's immune cells to mount an anti-cancer response. Chimeric antigen receptor T and natural killer cells have been engineered and proved successful in treating some cancers; however, the genetic methods for engineering are laborious, expensive, and inefficient and can cause severe toxicities when they over-proliferate.

Results: We examined whether the cell-killing capacity of activated T and NK cells could be targeted to cancer cells by anchoring antibodies to their cell surface.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on the average 3-day hospital stay after robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) and aimed to identify which patients could safely undergo the procedure on an outpatient basis without significant complications.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 3,342 patients who had RAPN between 2010 and 2021, finding that overall complications occurred in almost 15% of cases, with significant complications occurring in about 3.6%.
  • Key risk factors for early significant complications within 72 hours post-surgery included longer clamping times and higher ASA scores, leading to the conclusion that patients with ASA scores greater than 2 and a clamping time under 20 minutes could be good candidates for outpatient surgery.

Organic dyes-based photothermal agents (OPTAs) have received increasing attention as alternative to inorganic materials due to their higher biocompatibility and extensive diversification. Maximizing nonradiative deexcitation channels is crucial to improve the photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of OPTAs. This is typically achieved through individual molecular design or collective enhancement using supramolecular strategies.
