Background: Spread through air spaces (STAS) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a distinct pattern of intrapulmonary metastasis where tumor cells disseminate within the pulmonary parenchyma beyond the primary tumor margins. This phenomenon was officially included in the World Health Organization (WHO)'s classification of lung tumors in 2015. STAS is characterized by the spread of tumor cells in three forms: single cells, micropapillary clusters, and solid nests.

Chemical inducers of proximity (CIPs) are molecules that recruit one protein to another and introduce new functionalities toward modulating protein states and activities. While CIP-mediated recruitment of E3 ligases is widely exploited for the development of degraders, other therapeutic modalities remain underexplored. We describe a non-degrader CIP-DNA-encoded library (CIP-DEL) that recruits FKBP12 to target proteins using non-traditional acyclic structures, with an emphasis on introducing stereochemically diverse and rigid connectors to attach the combinatorial library.

Analysis of 27,810 patients with advanced cancers treated with anti-PD-1/L1 therapies shows that immune gene signatures or immune cell infiltration is not universally associated with mutation burden or long-term survivors after immunotherapies across cancer entities. Thus, immunological stratification of tumors has limited bearing on the immunogenicity of tumors or immunotherapy outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Accurate treatment response assessment using serial CT scans is crucial for cancer clinical trials, but the current method (RECIST guideline) can be subjective and imprecise, especially for multifocal liver cancer lesions.
  • The newly developed RECORD system utilizes deep learning to objectively evaluate treatment responses, segment liver tumors, and provide classifications based on tumor volume analysis, achieving high accuracy in assessments across multiple studies.
  • RECORD outperforms traditional methods by correlating strongly with clinical evaluations and effectively stratifying patient risks, suggesting a need for future research to apply this technology to other types of cancer.

  • Kernel dehydration rate (KDR) significantly influences maize harvesting and kernel quality, but its mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • Researchers discovered a quantitative trait locus (QTL) called qKDR1, which regulates the expression of a peptide gene, RPG, that produces a micropeptide (microRPG1) impacting KDR through ethylene signaling pathways.
  • Knockout experiments showed that loss of microRPG1 leads to quicker KDR, while overexpression or applying the micropeptide slows it down, providing insight for future maize breeding strategies.

Using renewable electricity to convert CO into CO offers a sustainable route to produce a versatile intermediate to synthesize various chemicals and fuels. For economic CO-to-CO conversion at scale, however, there exists a trade-off between selectivity and activity, necessitating the delicate design of efficient catalysts to hit the sweet spot. We demonstrate here that copper co-alloyed with isolated antimony and palladium atoms can efficiently activate and convert CO molecules into CO.
