Background: While a "fourth peak" of delayed trauma mortality has been described, limited data describe the causes of death (CODs) for patients in the years following an injury. This study investigates the difference in COD statewide for patients with and without a recent trauma admission.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study compared COD for trauma and nontrauma patients in North Carolina.
Aims: Cetuximab associated with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil is used to treat patients with inoperable or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) up until disease progression or unacceptable toxicities. To date, no biomarkers of efficacy are available to select patients who will benefit from treatment.
Methods: An ancillary pharmacokinetics (PK) exploration was performed in the context of a prospective study investigating circulating-tumour cells vs progression-free survival (PFS).
Purpose: To investigate the differences in viscoelastic properties between normal and pathologic Achilles tendons (ATs) by using real-time shear-wave elastography (SWE).
Materials And Methods: The institutional review board approved this study, and written informed consent was obtained from 25 symptomatic patients and 80 volunteers. One hundred eighty ultrasonographic (US) and SWE studies of ATs without tendonopathy and 30 studies of the middle portion of the AT in patients with tendonopathy were assessed prospectively.
Background: Individualizing antiplatelet therapy after platelet function testing did not improve outcome after coronary stenting in the Assessment by a Double Randomization of a Conventional Antiplatelet Strategy Versus a Monitoring-Guided Strategy for Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation and of Treatment Interruption Versus Continuation One Year After Stenting (ARCTIC) study. Whether results are different during the phase of secondary prevention starting after hospital discharge, when periprocedural events have been excluded, is unknown.
Methods And Results: In ARCTIC, 2440 patients were randomized before coronary stenting to a strategy of platelet function monitoring (VerifyNow P2Y12/aspirin point-of-care assay) with drug adjustment in suboptimal responders to antiplatelet therapy or to a conventional strategy without monitoring and without drug or dose changes.
The nasal vestibule tumors are not very frequent. The pronostic can be severe if the first treatment is not effective. The authors present a personnal nine pateints' serie.
