Ataxia with anti-regulator of G-protein signaling 8 autoantibodies (RGS8-Abs) is an autoimmune disease recently described in four patients. The present study aimed to identify other patients with RGS8-Abs, describe their clinical features, including the link between RGS8-related autoimmune cerebellar ataxia (ACA) and cancer. Patients with RGS8-Abs were identified retrospectively in the biological collections of the French Reference Center for Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndrome and the University of California San Francisco Center for Encephalitis and Meningitis.

Harnessing innate immunity is emerging as a promising therapeutic approach in cancer. We report here the design of tetraspecific molecules engaging natural killer (NK) cell-activating receptors NKp46 and CD16a, the β-chain of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R), and a tumor-associated antigen (TAA). In vitro, these tetraspecific antibody-based natural killer cell engager therapeutics (ANKETs) induce a preferential activation and proliferation of NK cells, and the binding to the targeted TAA triggers NK cell cytotoxicity and cytokine and chemokine production.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase 3 trial analyzed the impact of adding autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) to a treatment regimen involving lenalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone (known as RVD) in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.
  • Results showed that the group receiving RVD plus ASCT had a median progression-free survival of 67.5 months, compared to 46.2 months for those receiving just RVD, indicating a significantly lower risk of disease progression or death with ASCT.
  • Although progression-free survival improved with ASCT, there was no overall survival advantage, with 5-year survival rates being comparable between the two

Background: No published studies have specifically assessed whether treatment modifications to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer (PCa) are frequently carried out in routine clinical practice. The current study was conducted to determine what proportion of patients who had initiated hormone therapy with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue then had their treatment regimen modified during the first 24 months.

Methods: A prospective, noninterventional study was carried out in routine clinical practice in France.

Background: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, a rare complication of acute pulmonary embolism, is characterized by fibrothrombotic obstructions of large pulmonary arteries combined with small-vessel arteriopathy. It can be cured by pulmonary endarterectomy, and can be clinically improved by medical therapy in inoperable patients. A European registry was set up in 27 centers to evaluate long-term outcome and outcome correlates in 2 distinct populations of operated and not-operated patients who have chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Article Synopsis
  • - Mass spectrometry (MS) using Selected Reaction Monitoring (SRM) mode is suggested for detailed analysis of microorganisms in a multiplex format.
  • - The SRM method can identify microbes, detect antibiotic resistance, assess virulence, and provide epidemiological typing, all within 60-80 minutes.
  • - An example of this approach is presented through the analysis of Staphylococcus aureus, showing its potential for quick characterization of bacteria in sepsis patients' blood cultures.
