Objective: Diabetic subjects are at higher risk of ischemic peripheral vascular disease. We tested the hypothesis that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and their receptor (RAGE) block angiogenesis and blood flow recovery after hindlimb ischemia induced by femoral artery ligation through modulation of immune/inflammatory mechanisms.

Approach And Results: Wild-type mice rendered diabetic with streptozotocin and subjected to unilateral femoral artery ligation displayed increased accumulation and expression of AGEs and RAGE in ischemic muscle.

Background And Purpose: Energy depletion is a critical factor leading to cell death and brain dysfunction after ischemic stroke. In this study, we investigated whether energy depletion is involved in hyperglycemia-induced hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke and determined the pathway underlying the beneficial effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO).

To better understand the molecular mechanisms behind plant growth and leaf senescence in monocot plants, we identified a mutant exhibiting dwarfism and an early-senescence leaf phenotype, termed (). Histological analysis showed that the abnormal growth was caused by a reduction in cell number. Further investigation revealed that the decline in cell number in was affected by the cell cycle.

Background: Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling has multiple roles in the development and function of the blood vessels. In humans, mutations in BMP receptor type 2 (BMPR2), a key component of BMP signaling, have been identified in the majority of patients with familial pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The impact of liposomal formulations on the in vivo release and brain delivery of methotrexate (MTX) was quantitatively assessed in rats. Two PEGylated liposomal MTX formulations based on hydrogenated soy phosphatidylcholine (HSPC) or egg-yolk phosphatidylcholine (EYPC) were prepared. In rat sympathetic neurons from the superior cervical ganglia (SCG) expressing metabotropic glutamate receptor mGluR1 or mGluR5, overexpression of scaffolding Homer proteins, which bind to a Homer ligand in their C termini, cause receptor clustering and uncoupling from ion channel modulation. In the absence of recombinant Homer protein overexpression, uncoupling of mGluRs from voltage-dependent channels can be induced by expression of Preso1, an adaptor of proline-directed kinases that phosphorylates the Homer ligand and recruits binding of endogenous Homer proteins. Here we show that in SCG neurons expressing mGluR1 and the tyrosine receptor kinase B, treatment with brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) produces a similar uncoupling of the receptors from calcium channels.

The shoot apical meristem (SAM) consists of a population of multipotent cells that generates all aerial structures and regenerates itself. SAM maintenance and lateral organ development are regulated by several complex signaling pathways, in which the Argonaute gene-mediated pathway plays a key role. One Argonaute gene, AGO10, functions as a microRNA locker that attenuates miR165/166 activity and positively regulates shoot apical meristem development, but little is known about when and how AGO10 is regulated at the transcriptional level.

Aromatic cation activation is a useful strategy to promote deoxyfunctionalization; however, the deoxyfluorination of alcohols with cyclopropenium cation remains an unsolved problem due to the weak nucleophilicity of fluoride ion. Here we report the use of 3,3-difluoro-1,2-diarylcyclopropenes (CpFluors) as easily accessible and reactivity-tunable deoxyfluorination reagents. The electronic nature of CpFluors is critical for fluorination of monoalcohols via alkoxycyclopropenium cations, and CpFluors with electron-rich aryl substituents facilitate the transformation with high efficiency; however, selective monofluorination of 1,2- and 1,3-diols, which proceeds via cyclopropenone acetals, is less dependent on the electronic nature of CpFluors.

Unlabelled: The CHIPS randomized controlled trial (Control of Hypertension in Pregnancy Study) found no difference in the primary perinatal or secondary maternal outcomes between planned "less tight" (target diastolic 100 mm Hg) and "tight" (target diastolic 85 mm Hg) blood pressure management strategies among women with chronic or gestational hypertension.
