We introduce donor-acceptor substituted anthracenes as effective molecular solar thermal energy storage compounds that operate exclusively in the solid state. The donor-acceptor anthracenes undergo visible light-induced [4+4] cycloaddition reaction, producing metastable cycloadducts, dianthracenes with quaternary carbons, and storing photon energy. The triggered cycloreversion of dianthracenes to anthracenes discharges the stored energy as heat in the order of 100 kJ/mol (200 J/g).

The open technique for reconstructing the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) is a standard procedure to treat elbow instability caused by LUCL deficiency. Nevertheless, as arthroscopy procedures in the elbow have advanced, we describe an arthroscopic technique to reconstruct the LUCL with suture anchors and bone tunnel techniques.

The gut-lung connection suggests intestinal dysbiosis may impact lung diseases, with showing promise in regulating extraintestinal diseases. However, its application in patients with respiratory symptoms lacks clinical trial evidence.

By varying the deposition layers, the optimal coating layout was identified as 2 and 8 bilayers of intermediate and triboelectric layers, respectively. The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) fabricated with this optimal configuration achieved peak output voltage and current of 180 V and 9 μA, respectively, at 3 Hz and 5 N against PDMS.

Methods: Patients with posterosuperior IMRCTs and severe fatty infiltration (Goutallier grade ≥3) of the infraspinatus who underwent combined SCR and LTT were retrospectively reviewed. A double-folded fascia lata autograft with 1 layer of polypropylene mesh inside was used for SCR, and an Achilles tendon allograft was used to connect the tendon of the lower trapezius to the greater tuberosity.
This study examines the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of phlorotannins from in rats following intravenous and oral administration. Known for their potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and many other bioactivities, these phlorotannins, particularly dieckol, 8,8'-bieckol, and phlorofucofuroeckol-A (PFF-A), were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. Intravenous administration at 10 mg/kg allowed detectability in plasma for up to 36 h for dieckol and 8,8'-bieckol, but only 2 h for PFF-A.

Ion pairing has been employed in cosmetic formulations to enhance solubility in solvents and improve skin permeability. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the cosmetic formula "RE:pair (arginine-glutamate ion pair)", we analyzed scar size, itching and pain, skin barrier function, scar scale evaluation, and satisfaction in our study participants.

T cell surface CTLA4 sequesters the costimulatory ligands CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells (APCs) to prevent autoimmunity. Therapeutic immunosuppression by recombinant CTLA4-immunoglobulin (Ig) fusion proteins, including abatacept, is also attributed to CD80/CD86 blockade. Recent studies show that CTLA4-Ig binding to APC surface cis-CD80:PD-L1 complexes can release the inhibitory ligand PD-L1, but whether this contributes to T cell inhibition remains unclear.

There are also concerns about alloimmunization risk for premenopausal females given WB, leading to some protocols excluding this cohort. We sought to analyze WB utilization, outcomes, and disparities by patient sex.

During recovery from septic shock, circulating mitochondrial N-formyl peptides predispose to secondary infection by occupying formyl peptide receptor 1 on the neutrophil (polymorphonuclear leukocyte) membrane, suppressing cytosolic calcium ([Ca2+]i)-dependent responses to secondarily encountered bacteria. However, no study has yet investigated therapeutic clearance of circulating mitochondrial N-formyl peptides in clinical settings. Thus, we studied how to remove mitochondrial N-formyl peptides from septic-shock plasma and whether such removal could preserve cell-surface formyl peptide receptor 1 and restore sepsis-induced polymorphonuclear leukocyte dysfunction by normalizing [Ca2+]i flux.

The polymer properties of PHA have been improved by the incorporation of different monomers. Traditionally, the monomer composition of PHA has been analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), providing accurate monomer composition.

However, developing molecular glues remains challenging, requiring innovative mechanistic strategies to stabilize neoprotein interfaces and expedite discovery. Here we unveil a trans-labeling covalent molecular glue mechanism, termed 'template-assisted covalent modification'.

Methods: In florbetaben (FBB) PET scans of 245 adults with and without cognitive impairment, we investigated the impact of post-injection acquisition time on Centiloids (CLs) across five reference regions. CL equations for FBB were derived using standard methods, using FBB data collected between 90 and 110 min with paired Pittsburgh compound B data.

Background: Cardiovascular trials often use a composite end point and a time-to-first event model. We sought to compare edoxaban versus warfarin using the win ratio, which offers data complementary to time-to-first event analysis, emphasizing the most severe clinical events.
Methods: ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 (Effective Anticoagulation With Factor Xa Next Generation in Atrial Fibrillation-Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction 48) was a double-blind, randomized trial in which patients with atrial fibrillation were assigned 1:1:1 to a higher dose edoxaban regimen (60/30 mg daily), a lower dose edoxaban regimen (30/15 mg daily), or warfarin.
Objectives: To investigate differences in the incidence of enteropathy or intestinal malabsorption in patients taking angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), calcium channel blocker (CCB), and beta blockers (BBs) at a single center in Korea.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we utilized data from the Yangsan electronic medical records to identify 129,169 patients. These individuals were prescribed olmesartan, other ARBs, ACEI, CCB, and BBs between November 2008 and February 2021.
Lightweight structural materials are commonly used as effective fillers for advanced composites with high toughness. This study focused on enhancing the toughness of direct-spun carbon nanotube yarns (CNTYs) by controlling the micro-textural structure using a water-gap-based direct spinning. Drawing inspiration from the structural features of natural spider silk fibroin, characterized by an α-helix in the amorphous region and β-sheet in the crystalline region, multiscale bundles within CNTYs are reorganized into a unique nano-coil-like structure.
