Developing stable biopharmaceutical formulations is of paramount importance and is typically achieved by incorporating surfactants as stabilising agents, such as polysorbate 20 and 80. However, little is known about the effect surfactant grade has on formulation stability. This study evaluates the effect of regular grade and Super-refined™ polysorbates 20 and 80 and their interaction with model proteins, namely β-lactoglobulin (β-Ig), human serum albumin (HSA) and immunoglobulin gamma (IgG), using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Articular cartilage tissue exhibits a spatial dependence in material properties that govern mechanical behaviour. A mathematical model of cartilage tissue under one dimensional confined compression testing is developed for normal tissue that takes account of these variations in material properties. Modifications to the model representative of a selection of mechanisms driving osteoarthritic cartilage are proposed, allowing application of the model to both physiological and pathophysiological, osteoarthritic tissue.

Long interspersed nuclear element-1 (L1 or LINE-1) is a highly abundant mobile genetic element in both humans and mice, comprising almost 20% of each genome. L1s are silenced by several mechanisms, as their uncontrolled expression has the potential to induce genomic instability. Mycelium, the vegetative growth form of filamentous fungi, may represent a convergence of several features crucial for the development of food products that are nutritious, desirable, scalable, affordable, and environmentally sustainable. Mycelium has gained interest as technology advances demonstrate its ability to provide scalable biomass for food production delivering good flavor and quality protein, fiber, and essential micronutrients urgently needed to improve public health.
