A Prospective Comparison of Subjective Symptoms and Neurophysiological Findings in the Assessment of Neuropathy in Cancer Patients.

Neurotoxic effects causing peripheral nerve damage have been reported for several chemotherapy agents. There is no established and standardized method to assess the presence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). We compared patient-reported CIPN symptoms to neurophysiological findings and neurological assessments in patients receiving taxane-based chemotherapy.

Long-Term Follow Up in Anti-Contactin-1 Autoimmune Nodopathy.

Objective: To analyze long-term clinical and biomarker features of anti-contactin-1 (CNTN1) autoimmune nodopathy (AN).

Methods: Patients with anti-CNTN1 autoimmune nodopathy detected in our laboratory from which clinical information was available were included. Clinical features and treatment response were retrospectively collected.

Skeletal Muscle Involvement in Friedreich Ataxia.

Friedreich Ataxia (FRDA) is an inherited neuromuscular disorder triggered by a deficit of the mitochondrial protein frataxin. At a cellular level, frataxin deficiency results in insufficient iron-sulfur cluster biosynthesis and impaired mitochondrial function and adenosine triphosphate production. The main clinical manifestation is a progressive balance and coordination disorder which depends on the involvement of peripheral and central sensory pathways as well as of the cerebellum.

Pain in Multiple System Atrophy: A Community-Based Survey.

Background: Pain is a frequent yet poorly characterized symptom of multiple system atrophy (MSA). Understanding the factors influencing pain and its burden is crucial for improving the symptomatic treatment and quality of life of MSA individuals.

Deterioration in multifocal motor neuropathy upon treatment of immune-related adverse events of checkpoint inhibition.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have significantly improved the clinical outcome in multiple types of advanced or metastatic malignancies and are prescribed increasingly. However, immune-related adverse events (irAEs) occur frequently. Here, we present a patient with multifocal motor neuropathy and melanoma, with worsening of muscle weakness upon ICI therapy and concomitant use of steroids for the treatment of hepatitis, which was considered an irAE.
