Clinical outcomes and comparison of intraocular lens calculation formulas in eyes with long axial myopia.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the clinical and refractive outcomes of eyes with long axial length (AL) and high myopia that underwent cataract surgery and compare the performance of intraocular lens (IOL) calculation formulae on these eyes.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort included 183 eyes that underwent cataract surgery from January 2010 to December 2018. Demographics, AL, postoperative best-visual acuities, IOL power data, and postoperative complications were recorded.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare, benign spindle cell neoplasm of the urinary bladder with a presentation concerning a malignant disease. Oftentimes, these tumors pose a diagnostic dilemma because of a significant overlap with malignant spindle cell tumors in terms of clinical presentation, gross findings, and immunohistopathologic profile. A 28-year-old female presented to us with gross hematuria.

Climatic control of Mississippi River flood hazard amplified by river engineering.

Over the past century, many of the world's major rivers have been modified for the purposes of flood mitigation, power generation and commercial navigation. Engineering modifications to the Mississippi River system have altered the river's sediment levels and channel morphology, but the influence of these modifications on flood hazard is debated. Detecting and attributing changes in river discharge is challenging because instrumental streamflow records are often too short to evaluate the range of natural hydrological variability before the establishment of flood mitigation infrastructure.

Tradeoffs of strategically reconnecting rivers to their floodplains: The case of the Lower Illinois River (USA).

During the latter half of the 19th Century and first half of the 20th Century, the Illinois River was heavily altered through leveeing off large portions of its floodplain, draining wetlands, and the construction of dams and river-training structures that facilitated navigation. As a result of these alterations, flood stages continue to rise, increasing flood risk and threatening to overtop levees along the La Grange Segment (LGS) of the Illinois River. Over the last two decades, more emphasis has been placed on reconnecting portions of floodplains to rivers in order to solve the long-term problem of rising flood heights attributed to continual heightening of levees to provide flood protection.

Measurable variations in (182)W/(183)W, (142)Nd/(144)Nd, (129)Xe/(130)Xe and (136)XePu/(130)Xe in the Earth and meteorites provide a record of accretion and formation of the core, early crust and atmosphere. These variations are due to the decay of the now extinct nuclides (182)Hf, (146)Sm, (129)I and (244)Pu. The (l82)Hf-(182)W system is the best accretion and core-formation chronometer, which yields a mean time of Earth's formation of 10Myr, and a total time scale of 30Myr.
