Background: The detection of underlying paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with cryptogenic stroke (CS) can be challenging, and there is great interest in finding predictors of its hidden presence. The recent development of sophisticated software has enhanced the diagnostic and prognostic performance of the 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). Our aim was to assess the additional role of a computer-assisted ECG analysis in identifying predictors of AF in patients with CS.

The blood enzyme glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) has been postulated as an effective therapeutic to protect the brain during stroke. To demonstrate its potential clinical utility, a new human recombinant form of GOT (rGOT) was produced for medical use. We tested the pharmacokinetics and evaluated the protective efficacy of rGOT in rodent and non-human primate models that reflected clinical stroke conditions.

Circulating free tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis is gaining popularity in precision oncology, particularly in metastatic breast cancer, as it provides non-invasive, real-time tumor information to complement tissue biopsies, allowing for tailored treatment strategies and improved patient selection in clinical trials. Its use in early breast cancer has been limited so far, due to the relatively low sensitivity of available techniques in a setting characterized by lower levels of ctDNA shedding. However, advances in sequencing and bioinformatics, as well as the use of methylome profiles, have led to an increasing interest in the application of ctDNA analysis in early breast cancer, from screening to curative treatment evaluation and minimal residual disease (MRD) detection.

Objective: This article reviews the scientific evidence on the relationship between periodontitis and neurological disease, and particularly cerebrovascular disease and dementia. We also issue a series of recommendations regarding the prevention and management of periodontitis and these neurological diseases at dental clinics and neurology units.

Development: In response to a series of questions proposed by the SEPA-SEN working group, a literature search was performed, with no restrictions on study design, to identify the most relevant articles on the association between periodontitis and cerebrovascular disease and dementia from the perspectives of epidemiology, treatment, and the biological mechanisms involved in these associations.

We analyzed immune response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination by measuring specific IgG titers and T-cell reactivity to different SARS-CoV-2 peptides in multiple sclerosis patients taking different disease-modifying treatments. Of the 88 patients included, 72 developed any kind of immune response after vaccination. Although DMTs such as fingolimod and anti-CD20+ treatments prevented patients from developing a robust humoral response to the vaccine, most of them were still able to develop a cellular response, which could be crucial for long-term immunity.
