Unlabelled: MFE01 is an environmental bacterium characterized by an hyperactive type 6 secretion system (T6SS) and a strong emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In a previous study, a transposition mutant, 3H5, exhibited an inactive T6SS and altered VOC emission. In 3H5, the interruption of gene by the transposon was insufficient to explain these phenotypes.

Growth and stabilization of induced seismicity rates during long-term, low-pressure fluid injection.

We examine the temporal evolution of sequences of induced seismicity caused by long-term fluid injection using a compilation of over 20 case studies where moderate magnitude ( > 3.0) induced events have been recorded. We compare rates of seismicity with injection rates via the seismogenic index and seismic efficiency parameters, computing both cumulative and time-windowed values.

Bacterial communication is a fundamental process used to synchronize gene expression and collective behavior among the bacterial population. The most studied bacterial communication system is quorum sensing, a cell density system, in which the concentration of inductors increases to a threshold level allowing detection by specific receptors. As a result, bacteria can change their behavior in a coordinated way.

Characterization of patients admitted to specialized geriatric acute care hospital units with the German version of the Standardized Evaluation and Intervention for Seniors at Risk (SEISAR) screening-instrument: a cross-sectional study.

Background: The Standardized Evaluation and Intervention for Seniors at Risk (SEISAR) screening tool records major geriatric problems, originally applied in the emergency department. Particularly, the distinction of compensated and uncompensated problems is an interesting and new approach. Therefore, we translated the SEISAR in German language and used it to characterize patients in specialized geriatric hospital wards in Germany and to gather initial experience regarding its usability and practicability.
