Intralesional Steroid Injections for Management of Granulomatous Mastitis: A Systematic Review of Treatment Protocols and Clinical Outcomes.

Although idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (GM) of the breast is a benign condition, it can be locally aggressive and frequently chronic, causing significant pain and distress to the patient. Treatment often involves multiple disciplines including general practice, breast surgery/physicians, rheumatology and/or immunology. Traditional options for treatment include observation, oral steroids, methotrexate and/or surgery, all with variable outcomes.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis in children: nine years' experience at a statewide tertiary paediatric rheumatology referral centre.

Objective: To describe the clinical features, management and outcome of 34 children with chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) diagnosed at a single centre over 9 years.

Methods: All children identified with CRMO for the period 2005-13 were identified from a prospectively collected database, with additional data from hospital records.

Results: Thirty-four patients, 21 female and 13 male, were identified.

Efficacy of exogenous gonadotrophic hormones to induce estrus in anestrous gilts.

The objective of this study was to examine the response of anestrous gilts to injections of pregnant mare's serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) alone or in combination with human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). One hundred and eighty gilts which had failed to exhibit estrus by about 33 wk of age were given one of the following treatments: no injection, 500 IU PMSG, 1000 IU PMSG or 400 IU PMSG + 200 IU hCG. A greater number of gilts injected with 1000 IU PMSG exhibited estrus within nine days of treatment than control gilts (21/37 vs 13/41, X(2) = 5.

Reduction of energy requirements of steers fed on low-quality-roughage diets using trenbolone acetate.

1. Six steers implanted with 300 mg trenbolone acetate and six steers not implanted were fed on low protein, low-quality-roughage diets ad lib. in two experiments.

Effect of lipid solvents on cutaneous moisture loss.

Application of various lipid solvents and dimethyl sulphoxide to the skin of cattle, sheep, eland and African buffalo exposed to an air temperature of 20 degrees C caused an increase in cutaneous moisture loss. The effect did not occur after exposure to an air temperature of 40 degrees C or after adrenaline administration. Blockage of sweating by either bethanidine or phenoxybenzamine did not affect the response.
