This paper systematically evaluates saliency methods as explainability tools for convolutional neural networks trained to diagnose glaucoma using simplified eye fundus images that contain only disc and cup outlines. These simplified images, a methodological novelty, were used to relate features highlighted in the saliency maps to the geometrical clues that experts consider in glaucoma diagnosis. Despite their simplicity, these images retained sufficient information for accurate classification, with balanced accuracies ranging from 0.

Human skin fibroblasts are an excellent in vitro model for tracking the processes occurring in human skin and studying the potential impact of various biologically active substances on these processes. Two plant hormones, which are included in the cytokinins group-kinetin (K) and N-6-benzyladenine (BA)-have a positive effect on human skin. Therefore, an attempt was made to examine the effect they have on key skin functions, cell proliferation, and migration, as well as collagen synthesis in them.

Background And Aims: Since the overwhelmingly positive results of the 'early use of TIPS' published in 2010, studies in Europe and Asia have confirmed early/pre-emptive transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (p-TIPS) in high-risk patients with acute variceal bleed (AVB) reduces treatment failure and mortality compared to standard of care (SOC). There are no studies evaluating p-TIPS in a US cohort.

Methods: A review of patients with cirrhosis from June 2010 to June 2020 with AVB was conducted from a single large US center.

Objective: This study investigated the effectiveness and tolerability of brivaracetam (BRV) monotherapy in a large series of patients with epilepsy.

Method: This was a multicenter, retrospective, observational, non-interventional study in 24 hospitals across Spain. Patients aged ≥18 years who started on BRV monotherapy, either as first-line or following conversion, at least 1 year before database closure were included.

Accumulating evidence has recognised central visual field defects (CVFDs) as a common feature of glaucoma. Current glaucoma screening guidelines include peripherally biased perimetry (24-2 protocols), but test grids exist to test the integrity of the central visual field (10-2 protocols). However, the added benefit of incorporating central visual field assessments alongside peripheral-biased testing grids remains unclear.
