Introduction: Low-dose weekly methotrexate (MTX) is the mainstay in the therapy of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It can be given via oral, intramuscular or subcutaneous (SC) route. Behçet's disease (BD) is a rare chronic vasculitis of unclear etiology. It has been suggested that inflammatory response has an important role in BD pathophysiology. Herein, we aimed to study the interplay between inflammation, iron metabolism and endothelial function in BD and search for its putative association with disease activity.

Portuguese guidelines for the use of biological agents in rheumatoid arthritis - October 2011 update.

The authors present the revised version of the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology (SPR) guidelines for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) with biological therapies. In these guidelines the criteria for introduction and maintenance of biological agents are discussed as well as the contraindications and procedures in the case of nonresponders.
