Malignant mesothelioma (MpM) is an aggressive, invariably fatal tumour that is causally linked with asbestos exposure. The disease primarily results from loss of tumour suppressor gene function and there are no 'druggable' driver oncogenes associated with MpM. To identify opportunities for management of this disease we have carried out polysome profiling to define the MpM translatome.

Purpose: The retinal relaxing factor (RRF) is a continuously released factor from the retina that causes vasorelaxation, the identity and potential role in physiology of which remain largely unknown. Experiments were performed to find out whether the RRF-induced relaxation is influenced by serotonin, glutamate, L-cysteine, the cytochrome P450 pathway, the cyclooxygenase pathway, or oxidative stress. In addition, the sensitivity of retinal and non-retinal arteries towards the RRF was compared.

We compared the vasorelaxant capacity of twenty-one physiologically relevant polyphenol metabolites in isolated mouse arteries. Hesperetin, urolithins and ferulic acid-4-O-sulfate - not their glucuronidated forms or ferulic acid - caused vasorelaxation.
