Evaluation of the Management Strategies for Adhesive Small-Bowel Obstruction.

Introduction: The management of adhesive small-bowel obstruction (aSBO) continues to have wide variation, with no one management strategy accepted as the optimal. The first objective was to evaluate the methods of management and the variations in the management of aSBO at our institution and evaluate the outcomes of those management strategies. The second objective was to compare our outcomes to those of a published study by which patients were managed using an institutional protocol for aSBO.

Background: Patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) suffer from several neuropsychological impairments. These mainly affect the frontal lobe and subcortical brain structures. However, a scale for the assessment of cognitive and neuropsychiatric disability in PSP is still missing.

Manzamine A: A promising marine-derived cancer therapeutic for multi-targeted interactions with E2F8, SIX1, AR, GSK-3β, and V-ATPase - A systematic review.

Manzamine A, a natural compound derived from various sponge genera, features a β-carboline structure and exhibits a range of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory and antimalarial effects. Its potential as an anticancer agent has been explored in several tumor models, both in vitro and in vivo, showing effects through mechanisms such as cytotoxicity, regulation of the cell cycle, inhibition of cell migration, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), autophagy, and apoptosis through multi-target interactions of E2F transcriptional factors, ribosomal S6 kinases, androgen receptor (AR), SIX1, GSK-3β, v-ATPase, and p53/p21/p27 cascades. This systematic review evaluates existing literature on the potential application of this marine alkaloid as a novel cancer therapy, highlighting its promising ability to inhibit cancer cell growth while causing minimal side effects.

Two Patients with Therapy-Resistant Pemphigus Vulgaris and Severe Underlying Disease Showing Good Response to a New IVIg Preparation.

Pemphigus vulgaris is a severe and often therapy-resistant bullous autoimmune disease. Standard therapy with steroids often administered together with another immunosuppressant does not respond in all patients or may not be a good therapeutic option in patients with severe underlying diseases. Intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIgs) represent a treatment alternative, often showing a rapid response which allows one to reduce concomitant immunosuppression.
