National extension workshop: Connecting learners and educators to broaden reach and maximize impact in the 21st century.

Disseminating training nationwide through the Cooperative Extension Service, particularly as global demand for poultry products continues to increase, is critical for sustainable poultry production. Increasing urbanization, globalization of the poultry industry, consumer interest in animal welfare and labor shortages present opportunities for Extension professionals to engage diverse audiences and increase agricultural literacy. As part of the Poultry Science Association's 2024 National Extension Workshop, we presented examples of initiatives aimed at connecting educators, teachers and learners to address some of the pressing issues facing the poultry industry.

Consent to medical student teaching: an observational, cross-sectional study exploring the patient view.

Background: New Zealand guidelines stipulate that patient consent is obtained for medical student involvement in clinical care, however, patients' preferences regarding consent for medical student teaching have not been widely explored. This study examined patient preferences for consent for medical student teaching with the aim to increase patient empowerment, to optimise care and to reflect societal expectations more accurately.

Method: Observational, semi-qualitative, cross-sectional study of in-patients.

Reversible Metal-Mediated Molecular Switching of a Phosphaethene Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon.

This experimental and theoretical study illustrates how phosphaalkenes, which are isolobal to alkenes, can utilize a variety of external triggers for molecular switching. The E/Z isomerization of a truxene-based phosphaalkene, i.e.

HIPPO artificial intelligence: Correlating automated radiographic femoroacetabular measurements with patient-reported outcomes in developmental hip dysplasia.

Background: Hip dysplasia (HD) is characterized by insufficient acetabular coverage of the femoral head, leading to a predisposition for osteoarthritis. While radiographic measurements such as the lateral center edge angle (LCEA) and Tönnis angle are essential in evaluating HD severity, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) offer insights into the subjective health impact on patients.

Aim: To investigate the correlations between machine-learning automated and manual radiographic measurements of HD and PROMs with the hypothesis that artificial intelligence (AI)-generated HD measurements indicating less severe dysplasia correlate with better PROMs.

Excision of an intrascleral cyst guided by anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

A 4-year-old girl presented with an enlarging, congenital, intrascleral cyst of the left eye. Intraoperative anterior segment optical coherence tomography was used to visualize and to assess the extent of the cyst, facilitating safe excision. The cyst was completely removed, and the defect was covered with an amniotic membrane graft, with a good outcome.
