Vehicles are the major source of air pollution in modern cities, emitting excessive levels of CO and other noxious gases. Exploiting the OBD-II interface available on most vehicles, the continuous emission of such pollutants can be indirectly measured over time, although accuracy has been an important design issue when performing this task due the nature of the retrieved data. In this scenario, soft-sensor approaches can be adopted to process engine combustion data such as fuel injection and mass air flow, processing them to estimate pollution and transmitting the results for further analyses.

Objectives: To report a case series of Intraoperative Blood Salvage (IOS) in surgeries during the treatment for Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) with controlled dislocation of the hip, identifying its efficacy, complications, and the profile of patients with SCFE.
Methods: Descriptive study reporting a case series, comprising patients seen between January 2016 and March 2018, diagnosed with SCFE, and treated with controlled surgical dislocation of the hip using IOS.
Results: Sample comprised of 15 patients, with a mean age of 13.

Applying an electric field perpendicular to the axis of a silicene armchair nanotube allows us to numerically study the formation of eight topological edge states as silicene's intrinsic spin-orbit gap is closed by the sublattice-staggered electrostatic potential created by the electric field. Following their evolution with electric field, it is revealed that, at very small fields, these eight states are very broad, spin-locked, and sublattice constrained, inheriting their properties from the K and K' states in a silicene two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. Four of those states are centered at the very top of the nanotube and the other four states are centered at the very bottom.

Materials & Methods: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded breast resections were evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for the expression of eight target genes, three housekeeper genes and one control gene to assess for DNA contamination.
Results: The assay results were highly correlated with a validated reference laboratory.
Metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) in coastal seawaters and soft tissues of macroalga Fucus spiralis from the northwest coast of Portugal were determined to assess spatial variations of metal bioavailabilities and bioaccumulation factors to compare different ecological quality classifications. Both coastal seawaters and soft tissues of F. spiralis showed significant spatial variations in their metal concentrations along the coast.
