Manganese-based alloys with the composition MnFeZ (Z = Si, Al) have been extensively investigated in recent years due to their potential applications in spintronics. The MnFeSi alloy, prepared in the form of ingots, powders, or ribbons, exhibits either a cubic full-Heusler (2) structure, an inverse-Heusler (XA) structure, or a combination of both. In contrast, the MnFeAl alloy has so far been synthesized only in the form of ingots, featuring a primitive cubic (β-Mn type) structure.

Introduction: It is hypothesized that systemically administered antibiotics penetrate wound sites more effectively during negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). However, there is a lack of clinical data from patients who receive NPWT for deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) after open-heart surgery. Here, we evaluated vancomycin penetration into exudate in this patient group.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers synthesized eighteen new compounds called 2-trifluoromethylcinnamanilides and studied their effects against Mycobacterium smegmatis and Plasmodium falciparum, with promising results for certain substituted variants.
  • The most effective compounds against M. smegmatis were those with specific trifluoromethyl substitutions, while several anilides also showed strong activity against P. falciparum, with some comparable to chloroquine.
  • Initial cytotoxicity tests revealed that some compounds had toxic effects, but others did not, and further studies indicated that two compounds were stable and did not interfere with liver metabolism, enhancing their potential as dual-action antimicrobials.

Aims: The aims of this study were to compare global longitudinal strain of the left ventricle (LV-GLS) and reservoir strain of the left atrium (R-LAS) values between patients with acute decompensation of chronic heart failure (HF) and a control group.

Methods: Sixteen patients admitted to our ward for acute decompensation of HF were enrolled in this study. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) with two-dimensional speckle-tracking analysis (2D ST) was performed in each patient.
