Study Objectives: In-laboratory polysomnography is recommended for the evaluation of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in youth with Down syndrome. However, insufficient sleep laboratories are available, particularly for youth with neurocognitive disabilities such as Down syndrome. We hypothesized that level II home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) would be feasible, acceptable, and accurate in detecting polysomnography-defined moderate-severe OSA in youth with Down syndrome.

Here, we show that the oral FDA-approved drug nitazoxanide (NTZ) significantly inhibits SARS-CoV-2 viral replication and infection in different primate and human cell models including stem cell-derived human alveolar epithelial type 2 cells. Furthermore, NTZ synergizes with remdesivir, and it broadly inhibits growth of SARS-CoV-2 variants B.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmyloid aggregation of human ataxin-3 (ATX3) is responsible for spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, which belongs to the class of polyglutamine neurodegenerative disorders. It is widely accepted that the formation of toxic oligomeric species is primarily involved in the onset of the disease. For this reason, to understand the mechanisms underlying toxicity, we expressed both a physiological (ATX3-Q24) and a pathological ATX3 variant (ATX3-Q55) in a simplified cellular model, .

Here, we show that the host cytosolic RNA sensing molecules RIG-I-like receptor (RLR) signaling proteins RIG-I and MDA5, their common adaptor protein MAVS, and the RNA-dependent kinase PKR each independently inhibit MTb growth in human cells. Furthermore, we show that MTb broadly stimulates RIG-I, MDA5, MAVS, and PKR gene expression and their biological activities.

However, there are limited data evaluating the impact of ASPs and RDT on sepsis outcomes in the setting of the new Sepsis-3 guidelines. This study evaluates the impact of a low-resource method for ASPs with RDT on sepsis outcomes.
